Farm Manager for a "Start-up," Farm to School Focused farm
Are you an experienced grower looking for a new challenge? Healthy Flavors Arkansas is scaling production of a range of specialty crops, primarily for school food service operators.
Our three prime criteria are that you:
- know what it means to live a farmer lifestyle.
- have professional experience in your career history.
- share a passion for doing good through agriculture!
We are a small-scale, family-owned enterprise. If you blend in to the team and successfully contribute, you will benefit as the farm and its impact grows. This is a job where you will have great independence and a need to partner / collaborate with the owner, Dan Spatz. You will be respected like an owner if you show up like one.
Building mutual trust, having high ambitions and working actively and enthusiastically for a better future are hallmarks of our values. Our efforts during the last five years have already produced a growing reputation for contributing to societal health through farmer led, locally focused, community infused and sustainably based agricultural enterprise. We do that by maximizing production of locally grown, high quality specialty crops and by developing customer and supply chain solutions in parallel.
We are converting the 400-acre Dan-Harton Farm, located in the fertile Arkansas River valley of Central Arkansas. It has traditionally focused on soybeans, rice and wheat. But this farm manager will focus on fresh greens, summer and winter squash and southern peas. This year, we are using H-2A labor to unlock the potential of staff, who should have knowledge in areas such as
- “intense” growing operations (experience in scaling or already scaled vegetable production);
- soil building techniques;
- growing in various systems (outdoor soil-based systems and season extension techniques);
- workforce supervisory skills and workforce leadership (Spanish language a plus);
- food safety and hygiene principles;
- operating through data and planned, organized work routines;
- communicating easily and openly, operating both independently and as a team player.
This is a career type position where we appreciate active discussions about how this experience can fulfill your personal goals and ambitions.
Compensation commensurate with your experience and demonstrated ability to drive our production and productiveness. $60,000 is a starting point, into which we will factor your experience, health care needs and potential on-farm housing options. We also offer paid time off. Housing options could be workable for an individual or couple.
