The Commodity Manager will be responsible for the strategic management of commodities to ensure optimal sourcing practices, cost-effectiveness, and supply chain efficiency. In this role, the Commodity Manager will play a key role in driving the company’s procurement strategies and supporting overall business objectives.
Specialty commodity growth will be a key initiative for this role.
Essential Job Functions:
- Develop, implement, and manage procurement strategies for assigned commodities to achieve cost savings and improve supply chain efficiency.
- Conduct market research and analysis to identify trends, forecasts, and potential risks associated with commodity pricing and supply.
- Negotiate contracts and agreements with suppliers to secure favorable terms and conditions, ensuring compliance with company policies and legal requirements.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to align procurement strategies with business goals and operational needs.
- Monitor and assess supplier performance, quality, and delivery metrics, resolving any issues that arise in a timely manner.
- Manage inventory levels and optimize stock to balance supply and demand, minimizing excess and obsolete inventory.
- Prepare and present reports on commodity performance, market trends, and cost-saving initiatives to senior management.
- Stay updated on industry developments, new sourcing methods, and best practices to drive continuous improvement within the procurement function.
- Foster strong relationships with suppliers to enhance collaboration and maintain open lines of communication.
- All other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Business, Finance, or equivalent experience within produce buying.
- 5+ years of experience in commodity management, procurement, or supply chain management, preferably in Wholesale Produce or perishable commodities.
- Specialty experience is a must.
- Strong negotiation skills and experience with contract management.
- Proficient in data analysis and market research tools.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with diverse teams and stakeholders.
- Strong problem-solving skills and ability to make sound decisions under pressure.
- Ability to travel to farms, vendors, and customers on an as needed basis.
- Proficient in procurement software and Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
- Must be authorized to work within the US and have unrestricted work authorization for the US
