Joe Produce Search has been engaged to recruit for a successful, established organization serving leading retail customers and is seeking a highly capable Retail Account Manager to join its Los Angeles area team.
This is a fast-moving, detail-intensive position for someone who enjoys being at the center of the business and making sure things get done. The Account Manager will take ownership of the daily activity behind assigned customer accounts—from orders, pricing, and allocations to reporting, account changes, and problem resolution.
This person will work closely with the sales team while becoming deeply knowledgeable about their assigned customers. Success requires someone who is exceptionally organized, highly computer savvy, quick to learn, and able to handle a substantial volume of information without losing accuracy.
The pace is demanding. Priorities can change quickly, and the person in this role must be able to adjust, solve problems, and keep multiple moving pieces on track.
What You'll Be Responsible For
- Manage the daily activity associated with assigned retail accounts.
- Enter, review, confirm, track, and monitor customer orders from entry through shipment.
- Manage customer pricing, quotes, volume allocations, promotions, and other account-specific information.
- Maintain accurate and current customer information within internal systems and customer portals.
- Monitor order activity, availability, pricing, deadlines, and customer requirements.
- Communicate directly with customers regarding day-to-day account needs, changes, questions, and issues.
- Work closely with sales, operations, supply chain, logistics, accounting, and leadership to ensure customer commitments are executed accurately.
- Identify order discrepancies, missing information, potential service issues, and other problems before they impact the customer.
- Assist in resolving customer claims and shipment-related issues.
- Support the resolution of account credit and collection matters when needed.
- Prepare and maintain customer reports, spreadsheets, account data, pricing information, and other documentation.
- Review customer and market information to help identify trends, issues, and opportunities.
- Become highly knowledgeable about assigned customers, including their individual requirements, processes, preferences, and expectations.
- Anticipate customer needs and potential issues rather than waiting to react to them.
- Maintain accurate documentation and consistently follow through until issues are fully resolved.
- Handle additional account projects and responsibilities as business needs evolve.
Who Will Excel in This Role
We're looking for someone who is naturally fast, accurate, resourceful, and exceptionally organized.
The right person will:
- Be highly computer savvy and comfortable moving between multiple systems throughout the day.
- Have strong Excel skills and be comfortable working with detailed spreadsheets, reports, formulas, and customer data.
- Learn new software, systems, customers, and processes very quickly.
- Process a large amount of information without becoming overwhelmed.
- Be exceptionally detail-oriented while still working with speed.
- Know how to prioritize when several things need attention at once.
- Catch errors and inconsistencies that others may overlook.
- Take ownership and follow things through to completion.
- Communicate clearly, concisely, and professionally.
- Ask good questions and think through problems rather than waiting to be told what to do.
- Remain composed and productive when priorities change or pressure increases.
- Be comfortable receiving direct feedback and working in an environment with high expectations.
- Enjoy being part of a team where people are accountable for their work and expected to perform at a high level.
Experience & Qualifications
- Previous account management, sales support, customer account, or related experience supporting retail customers.
- Experience within produce, fresh foods, food and beverage, CPG, distribution, or another fast-paced retail-oriented business is strongly preferred.
- Experience working with customer orders, pricing, account information, and detailed transactional activity.
- Strong proficiency with Microsoft Excel and other Microsoft Office applications.
- Experience working with ERP systems, CRM platforms, order-management systems, customer portals, or similar business technology.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively across departments.
- Proven ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines in a high-volume environment.
- A track record of reliability, accountability, and career stability is highly valued.
- Bachelor’s degree preferred.
