As a Marketing Manager - International, you will play a key role in driving international sales and enhancing brand awareness for California walnuts. Collaborating closely with global agencies, you'll ensure consistent branding and messaging while navigating the complexities of international markets. You will gain a keen understanding of global market trends, tariffs, government regulations, and industry-specific challenges, which will be crucial to your success in this generalist position, which demands both strategic insight and attention to detail.

In this role, you will develop and implement comprehensive international marketing strategies. Your responsibilities will include conducting market research to identify growth opportunities, managing international marketing budgets and campaigns, and representing the California Walnut Board at industry events and conferences. Building and maintaining strong relationships with international partners and distributors will be essential, as will analyzing and reporting on the effectiveness of marketing initiatives to optimize performance and drive results.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Strategic Marketing Development: Collaborate with the marketing team and agencies to plan and execute consumer and trade marketing programs aligned with the California walnut industry's objectives.
  • Campaign Management: Support internal and external marketing campaigns; brainstorm creative ideas and monitor activities including product launches, social media, advertising, and sales promotions to ensure cohesive messaging.
  • Content Creation: Develop engaging content for websites, press releases, brochures, and promotional materials that align with the brand's voice and objectives.
  • Event Planning and Management: Coordinate industry events, trade shows, and promotional activities, managing logistics and vendor relationships. Attending events to engage with growers and handlers.
  • Reporting: Assist Marketing Directors with activity reports, metrics, and create PowerPoint presentations for industry meetings.
  • Asset Creation and Management: Help create and manage visual assets, newsletters, and bulletins; maintain an inventory of sales support materials.
  • Data-Driven Insights: Compile and analyze marketing data to enhance future strategies; develop performance databases and generate reports on key metrics.
  • Market Research: Gather and interpret data on market trends, foodservice adoption, and retail statistics to produce detailed reports on economic and demographic factors.
  • Grant Writing Support: Assist in drafting government-funded grant applications for international marketing projects.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Minimum 2-5 years of experience in marketing/communications, with a proven track record in managing marketing campaigns and projects.
  • Bachelor’s degree in advertising, marketing, or communications.
  • Time management and organization skills for planning and executing both large and small marketing projects and initiatives.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and marketing software and tools, including CRM systems, digital analytics platforms, and content management systems. Experience with Adobe Creative Suite, Google Ads, and social media management tools is preferred. Experience in video/photography is a plus.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills with an adaptable communication style for interacting with team members, upper management, and agency partners.
  • Strong analytical abilities with experience in market research, data analysis, and performance measurement. Ability to interpret data and make strategic recommendations.
  • Innovative and creative mindset with a keen eye for detail. Ability to develop and execute creative marketing solutions that resonate with target audiences.
  • Collaborative and proactive approach to working with cross-functional teams. Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to motivate and lead marketing agencies.
  • Previous experience working in agriculture, produce or consumer packaged goods is helpful.
  • Experience working with different cultures and speaking multiple language is a plus
  • An interest in delicious, fresh and healthy food is a must!

The California walnut industry, comprised of 4,600+ growers and 70+ processors, represents 99% of the production of walnuts in the United States and close to 50% of world trade. The California Walnut Board (CWB) was established in 1948 to represent the walnut growers and handlers of California and is funded by mandatory assessments of the handlers with primary activities including domestic marketing along with production and post-harvest research. The California Walnut Commission (CWC), established in 1987, is funded by mandatory assessments of the growers with primary activities, including international market development and scientific health research. The CWC also receives funding through grants offered by the US Department of Agriculture for export marketing activities.
