We are seeking a detail-oriented, proactive, and results-driven Account Manager to join our team in Fresno, CA. The successful candidate will focus on managing a portfolio of accounts, driving sales growth by increasing volume through cross-selling strategies while maintaining strong relationships across multiple channels, including retail, wholesale, and foodservice.
This position will also be responsible for selling oversupplied commodities on the open market to ensure our inventories remain fresh and meet demand. The Account Manager will oversee a specific commodity, serve as a key liaison between the field and sales teams, and provide valuable market insights to guide pricing and sales strategies.
Responsibilities and Duties:
Account Management & Sales Growth
- Manage a portfolio of customer accounts, focusing on driving sales growth year-over-year.
- Increase customer usage by implementing cross-selling strategies to expand product offerings.
- Build and maintain strong, long-term relationships with key customers, understanding their evolving needs, weekly usages, preferences and providing tailored solutions.
Open Market Sales:
- Identify opportunities to sell oversupplied commodities on the open market, particularly when production volumes exceed normal weekly sales distribution.
- Coordinate additional sales and distribution efforts to keep inventory fresh and avoid waste.
Commodity Management:
- Manage an assigned commodity, ensure accurate forecasts and maintain consistent communication with the operations team.
- Develop and monitor harvest projections for your commodity, reconciling them against actual harvest data.
- Edit active sales in response to production shortages or changes in supply and communicate those edits to fellow Account Managers.
Sales & Operations Liaison:
- Act as the primary liaison between the field operations and sales teams, ensuring the smooth flow of information regarding crop status, special pack requirements, and production timelines.
- Communicate any special packs or production needs to the operations team to ensure customer specifications are met.
Market Analysis & Pricing Strategy:
- Stay informed about market conditions, pricing trends, and supply-demand shifts across the U.S., Mexico and Canada.
- Advise the sales team on optimal pricing strategies, taking market conditions into account.
Reporting & Communication:
- Issue weekly sales forecast for assigned commodities.
- Publish a weekly market report that provides the sales team with relevant insights into market trends, pricing, and key developments in the industry.
- Provide regular updates to the sales team regarding inventory status, production forecasts, and market conditions.
Qualifications:
- 7+ years of experience in account management, sales, or supply chain management, preferably within the agricultural or fresh produce industry.
- Proven ability to drive sales growth, manage customer relationships, and work across multiple sales channels (retail, wholesale, foodservice).
Skills & Abilities:
- Strong analytical and forecasting skills, with the ability to track and reconcile projections against actual results.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, able to collaborate effectively with internal teams and customers.
- Solid understanding of fresh produce markets, including the ability to identify trends, pricing dynamics, and competitor activity.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint), with experience using CRM software or similar tools.
Education:
- A bachelor’s degree in Business, Agriculture, Supply Chain Management, or a related field is preferred.
Working Conditions:
- Occasional travel to customer locations, supplier meetings, conventions and farm operations as needed.
- Flexibility to work outside of regular business hours may be required to address urgent market conditions, production updates, or customer needs.
