This unique grocery store offers the selection and assortment of a national chain, with the service and local customization of a community-based retailer. Each store contains specialized local assortments to meet local shoppers’ needs.

Position Overview:

Our focus is simple but meaningful, from our distribution centers to our offices — every employee of C&S and their family of companies works to help feed local families, neighbors, and communities.

 As a Senior Buyer, you will be responsible for procuring on average $1.5 million weekly product from manufacturers for multiple warehouses & customers that includes Freight on Board (FOB) buying for customers. You will coordinate multiple activities with Associate Buyers, Buyers, and Assistants to maintain contractual and/or company goals for all major accounts' service levels and inventory levels.

In this role, you will be responsible for developing associates via continual training, recognizing successes for company, teams and individuals, and mentoring against KPI's. You will work with multiple internal and external teams to solve potential issues and will be responsible for proactive communication with the Manager.

You will contribute by:

  • Procuring products from branded and non-branded manufacturers to achieve targeted service levels.
  • Managing, directing, and supporting team service levels by identifying, reacting, monitoring, and communicating potential problems
  • Collaborating with multiple internal departments to accomplish individual, team and company goals, including the development and implementation of holiday and seasonal plans and working with facilities on service level and inventory opportunities.
  • Negotiating with vendors to maximize product flow, manage inventory levels and coordinate action against close coded, expired and unproductive inventory.
  • Hosting daily/weekly meetings with customers to discuss problem solving and KPI progress
  • Partnering with the team in conjunction with the merchandising group on new items, maintenance, and achievement of gross profit goals.
  • Managing a salvage financial budget, working with buyers, vendors, and customers to minimize the expense to C&S.
  • Executing the inventory transfer process and budget through vendor negotiations amongst the teams
  • Providing constructive feedback to the team through coaching and mentoring that the team can translate into development actions that produce measured results to the company.
  • Managing additional tasks and projects as assigned.

We’re searching for candidates with:

  • Forecasting experience, strong product knowledge and deep understanding of distribution logistics and transportation.
  • Gross Profit Enhancements, Shrink Reduction, Freight on Board FOB) buying expertise.
  • Interpretation and analytical ability.
  • Professional verbal and written communication skills
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to prioritize.
  • 2-5 years of buying experience
  • Wholesale department management and/or retail experience strongly preferred.
