The Operations Manager is responsible for overseeing the efficient handling, storage, and distribution of cargo arriving into Port Hueneme. This includes managing warehouse operations and ensuring seamless cargo movement from vessel discharge to final delivery. The ideal candidate will have experience in supply chain management.
Key Responsibilities:
Port & Cargo Operations Management
- Oversee cargo receiving, storage, and outbound logistics from port discharge to ensure smooth and efficient movement.
- Coordinate with port authorities, customs agencies, and third-party logistics providers (3PLs) to ensure compliance with regulations.
- Monitor vessel schedules, discharge operations, and container availability to optimize supply chain flow.
- Maintain relationships with ocean carriers, trucking companies, and warehouse managers to ensure timely cargo movement.
Warehouse & Inventory Control:
- Oversee warehouse operations, including containerized cargo storage, cross-docking, and inventory tracking.
- Ensure proper handling of temperature-sensitive or specialized cargo, maintaining compliance with safety and regulatory requirements.
Labor & Team Management:
- Lead warehouse and operations staff, ensuring adherence to company policies and performance goals.
- Maintain appropriate labor levels and adjust workforce deployment based on cargo volume and scheduling demands.
- Foster a safety-first culture, ensuring compliance with OSHA, CBP, and other regulatory bodies.
Process Optimization & Reporting:
- Identify operational bottlenecks and implement process improvements to enhance efficiency and reduce delays.
- Provide regular reports to senior management on cargo movement, operational challenges, and strategic improvements.
Qualifications & Requirements:
- Proven experience in cargo handling, port logistics, or supply chain management.
- Knowledge of customs clearance, import/export regulations, and cargo documentation.
- Strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, managing multiple priorities while ensuring operational efficiency.
