Logistics/Distribution Manager

Job Description: 

The Logistics/Distribution Manager is on the front line of our business. Truck departure and arrival times (Dispatch) are crucial to our clientele. In tandem with timeliness is training of drivers in appropriate customer service, route profitability, truck maintenance, people management, maintaining accurate records and scheduling.

It is essential that the distribution manager work closely with all departments for smooth flow service and problem resolution. The preceding are daily and weekly duties while working “in the business.” It is also expected that the distribution manager work “on the business” to develop the company for the future. This will encompass understanding the growth of the company and how its’ needs will change the responsibilities and structure of the department, working on plans to meet the future needs and hiring and training the right people for the right positions to meet those needs.

Compensation/Salary: 
$60000
Requirements: 
  • Five years produce experience
  • Have a working knowledge of  HACCP and OSHA regulations.
  • To be able to work safely and follow HACCP regulations.
  • To be able to exhibit advanced computer skills with regards to report compilation and information dissemination.
Responsibilities & Duties: 

Truck Departure and Arrival Times

  • Maintain records detailing departure and stop start and stop times. Review for efficiency and accuracy.
  • Log reason for late departure.
  • Communicate with buyers to arrange for short items to be available for the trucks.

Training

  • Ensure training for all department personnel. Log and maintain training records.
  • People development – Develop people to improve performance and to build a pool of individuals from which we may promote to meet the future needs of the company.
  • Ensure that job specific and safety training happen at required intervals in relation to HACCP, OSHA and Workers Compensation Insurance.
  • Develop and maintain accurate job descriptions. As positions change, modify, retrain and have current job description for each position in personnel files.

Customer Service

  • Route to meet customer request for delivery time.
  • Take calls from customers for product exchanges and returns.
  • Arrange for 2nd deliveries to meet the needs of our customers.
  • Work with sales to meet the needs of new clientele.

Route Profitability

  • Scheduling – coverage to ensure business levels are covered.
  • Maintain records regarding route profitability. Gross profit, distance traveled, order size and driver hours.
  • Adjust routes to meet minimum profitability requirements.

Truck Maintenance

  • Develop, train and monitor staff.
  • Work with supervisors to improve performance and reduce down time.
  • Monitor the performance of the fleet manager.

Maintain Records

  • Employee records – maintain accurate attendance records and supply Human Resources with appropriate documentation for personnel files and new hires.

  • Route time sheets.

People development

  • Develop people to improve performance and to build a pool of individuals from which we may promote to meet the future needs of the company.

Job description development

Skills: 
  • Bilingual English/Spanish is required
