We are looking for a Buying and Sales specialist whose role will be pivotal in driving sales growth and achieving gross margin targets with your buying expertise. You will leverage your extensive knowledge of the fresh produce market to develop and maintain strong customer and vendor relationships. Your proactive approach and strategic mindset will be essential in identifying and capitalizing on new business opportunities.

Responsibilities & Duties: 
  • Identify, evaluate, and establish relationships with reliable suppliers and growers.
  • Negotiate contracts, prices, and terms with suppliers.
  • Monitor supplier performance to ensure compliance with quality and delivery standards.
  • Stay informed about market trends, seasonal variations, and emerging products.
  • Analyze market conditions and forecast demand to make informed purchasing decisions.
  • Conduct competitor analysis to stay competitive.
  • Manage inventory levels to prevent shortages or overstock situations.
  • Coordinate with warehouse and distribution teams to ensure timely and efficient delivery.
  • Monitor stock levels and order products to maintain optimal inventory.
  • Develop and manage budgets for purchasing.
  • Implement cost-saving initiatives without compromising quality.
  • Ensure compliance with food safety standards and regulations.
  • Maintain accurate records of purchases, quality inspections, and supplier certifications.
  • Keep up to date with industry regulations and implement necessary changes.
  • Collaborate with retailers and work to grow and expand new opportunities.
  • Communicate effectively with suppliers, growers, and internal stakeholders.
  • Address any issues or disputes related to orders, deliveries, or quality promptly.
  • Analyze data to make informed purchasing and selling decisions.
  • Understand customer preferences and ensure the availability of desired products.
  • Gather and act on customer feedback to improve service and product offerings.
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with key customers.
  • Actively promote and sell our products working to secure year-round contracts with retailers.
Qualifications: 
  • Comprehensive knowledge of the fresh produce market, including commodities, growing regions, seasons, and sources.
  • Established relationships with key regional and national retailers, with the ability to secure new business.
  • At least 5+ years of successful key account sales experience as a broker or working for a distributor in the produce industry.
  • Proven experience in both buying and selling fresh produce.
  • Expertise in at least one commodity.
  • Strong sales and presentation skills.
  • Demonstrated success in face-to-face sales, including key account management.
  • High sense of urgency and a relentless drive to achieve goals.
  • Commitment to integrity and adherence to company values and ethics.
  • Resilience in overcoming challenges and setbacks.
  • Exceptional active listening and communication skills (verbal and written).
  • Strong follow-through and prioritization abilities.
