Our client, a leading family-owned agricultural operation in the Central Valley of California, is seeking a Farming Operations Manager to take charge of their farming operations. This is a rare opportunity to lead a dynamic team, drive operational efficiency, and implement sustainable farming practices during a transitional phase of their business.
The ideal candidate will bring extensive experience in farming operations, a deep understanding of plant science, and a proven ability to regenerate soil health while navigating the complexities of transitioning crop systems. Familiarity with packaging shed operations and organic farming practices is highly desired.
The Role:
As the Farming Operations Manager, you will oversee every aspect of the operation, from strategic planning and day-to-day management to fostering team excellence and driving profitability. You’ll work closely with ownership and other stakeholders to ensure the successful execution of their vision for the future.
What You’ll Do:
- Lead Farming Operations: Oversee all crop management activities, including planting, cultivation, irrigation, and harvesting.
- Drive Transition Success: Manage the transition from current crops to new systems, with a focus on soil health and sustainable practices.
- Optimize Efficiency: Implement strategies to improve operational efficiency, reduce costs, and boost overall profitability.
- Build and Lead Teams: Mentor and manage farm teams, promoting collaboration, accountability, and excellence.
- Ensure Compliance: Maintain strict adherence to food safety, environmental regulations, and certification standards.
- Collaborate & Report: Work with supply chain teams to streamline logistics and prepare detailed performance reports for ownership.
Your Background:
- 8+ years of experience in farm management, ideally with row crops or permanent crops.
- Expertise in plant science and soil health restoration.
- Leadership experience with a proven ability to manage diverse teams and collaborate at all levels.
- Proven financial expertise with a track record of successfully managing profit and loss (P&L).
- Bachelor’s degree in Agriculture, Agronomy, or a related field (preferred).
- Strong knowledge of pest and water management, irrigation systems, and farm machinery.
- Experience with organic farming practices and sustainability initiatives.
- Familiarity with packaging shed operations is highly valued.
