This front-line employee, Food Safety and Quality Assurance Supervisor will be responsible for implementing and maintaining the facility food safety, quality assurance and other related programs. This position will also be responsible for developing food safety and quality assurance policies, procedures, and monitoring documentation to assure Mann Packing is meeting food safety and quality requirements established by Mann Packing Corporation, customers, and regulators.
This position is responsible for supervising, coaching and mentoring the QA staff and for providing direction through ongoing performance feedback. This position work closely with Production, Purchasing, Field Operations, Receiving, Shipping, Inventory, Refrigeration and Maintenance, IT, R&D, and HR departments to manage the daily production environment.
- Perform Food Safety and Quality audits and lead monthly food safety meetings.
- Provide marginal product disposition and decide how deviations from food safety and quality programs should be handled.
- Summarize and report Food Safety and Quality data.
- Lead the microbiological.
- Review Food Safety and Quality paperwork and develop/update SOP’s as needed.
- Plan, coordinate and audit quality assurance activities ensuring all department activities meet established standards.
- Assist with the hiring and training of support staff.
- Provide technical assistance to internal and external partners (Mann Corp employees, suppliers, vendors, contractors, co-packers).
- Assist at all Mann Packing facilities, as necessary.
- Review and analyze data gathered from shelf life studies, testing, QA and Food Safety data, and other test data conducted by the department to analyze trends and/or to determine if any system improvements, or immediate corrective actions, are required.
Minimal Qualifications:
- BS in Food Science, Biological Science, Microbiology, Food Safety, agricultural or plant science, or related field.
- 3-5 years’ experience working in food manufacturing in a technical services role (QA, Food Safety, Organic Compliance, Regulatory Compliance, or other similar work experience).
- Knowledge, and working experience, with, food microbiology, RTE quality and food safety (preferably in fresh produce), HACCP, GMPs/Prerequisite programs; raw materials supply management and sanitation.
- Strong communication, negotiating and conflict resolution skills.
- Demonstrated supervisory experience.
- Excellent writing skills
- Proficient in Microsoft Office and other computer operating systems routinely used in manufacturing environments.
- Must have a valid driver’s license, be legally able to drive, and have reliable transportation.
- Maintain current food safety, regulatory, and quality assurance knowledge through ongoing trainings and educational opportunities.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Advanced degree in Food Science, Biological Science, Microbiology, Food Safety, agricultural or plant science, or related field.
- Knowledge, and working experience, with pre-farm gate food safety principles such as farm and harvest food safety practices, GAPs, IPM, Pesticide use and regulation, compost production.
- Demonstrated experience developing HACCP, and risk, based programs.
- Bilingual Spanish and English.
- Demonstrated experience with process improvement programs.
- Root Cause Analysis, Fish Bone/Ishikawa diagram, Six sigma certification, Pareto Analysis, Failure Analysis, other similar process improvement processes.
- Food safety certifications – HACCP/Advanced HACCP, PCQI, ISO 9001 or 22000 Lead Auditor.
Physical Requirements:
- This is a production facility based position with limited travel requirements.
- Must be able to sit and/or stand for long periods of time, work outside or inside, work in variable climate conditions such as outside of the facility, inside the facility, in refrigerated rooms, in wet production environments, in noisy environments, and work in proximity to moving equipment.
- Must be able to carry up to 20 lbs. of equipment.
- Must be able to walk up and down stairs, bend and walk under equipment.
- Must be able to work variable hours, depending on business needs, including mornings, evenings, and weekends.
