Job Description: 

Under minimal supervision, the Food Safety Analyst will conduct and implement all food safety requirements related to growers, ranch, field, crop, harvest crews, and harvest equipment.  This person will document and communicate any food safety issues or incidences, and maintain all grower and in house food safety documentation.  The Food Safety Analyst will ensure ranch, field, and harvest corrective actions are implemented; design and implement studies related to field and plant activities; conduct internal field and plant audits; and participate in LGMA and Third Party audits.

Please Note: This position requires relocation to Yuma, AZ during winter season.

Requirements: 
  • Must have a valid driver’s license with a good driving record.
Responsibilities & Duties: 
  • Schedule and conduct preseason ranch and preharvest ranch assessments.  Preseason inspections require ranch inspections, documentation of any potential food safety risk, and informing growers on any issues.  Preharvest involves detail inspection of the crops and surrounding areas.  Follow up on any corrective actions.
  • Conduct irrigation sanitary surveys.  All ranch water sources and irrigation equipment must be inspected prior to the start of each season and during preharvest assessment. 
  • Inspect and interview harvest crew personnel.  Includes implementing LGMA and NewStar/organicgirl employee hygiene and harvest sanitation procedures.  Ensure all employees are trained and have a basic food safety understanding.  Assist in the development of new training material.  Must inspect all employee and ranch sanitary units. 
  • Harvest equipment swabbing and testing.  Must evaluate equipment and determine likely contamination points for swabbing and pathogen testing.  Observe harvest sanitation practices and provide recommendations for improvement.
  • Design studies to improve existing facilities, ranch, field, and harvest operations programs.  Implement experiments, gather, summarize, and interpret data.  Provide conclusions and recommendations.
  • Maintain and organize electronic food safety documentation and records.  Review and improve current supplier approval program.  Implement systems for data retrieval, traceability, and recalls.
  • Participate and conduct internal facilities inspections.  Apply regulatory and internal facility food safety processing requirements.  Inspect all processes from raw receiving, production, packaging, and warehousing.  Follow up on any corrective actions.
  • Assist in LGMA and Third Party audit preparation.
Education: 
  • Bachelor's degree (B.A.) from four-year college or university in Food Sciences or related field.
Qualifications: 
  • Ability to work outdoors and under variable weather conditions.
  • Must be comfortable with extensive travel – driving.
  • Ability to work in cold processing and storage conditions.
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word/Excel/Outlook/PowerPoint/Access).
  • Familiar with various map and GPS programs.
