Organic & Conventional Sales Representative

Job Description: 

The Organic and Conventional Sales Representative will establish and grow the PPC’S organic and conventional produce business by cultivating and managing profitable customer relationships; gain distribution on new products and commodities; work with retail clients to improve product exposure and work closely with Regional Sales Managers to provide ongoing support to customers.

The individual in this role must be comfortable working in a fast paced environment that is subject to long hours including evenings and on-call status. Some travel is also required.

Responsibilities & Duties: 
  • Effectively implement and execute sales strategies to grow the expanding organic category list
  • Market and manage our south Texas grown conventional commodities list
  • Expand sales on our Mexican conventional commodity portfolio 
  • Purchasing for clients needs and or spot buys.
  • Execute daily sales of market priced commodities; recommend products to customers, based on customers' needs and interests.
  • Answer customers' questions about products, prices, availability, product uses, and credit terms.
  • Negotiate details of payments; accurately invoice customer orders.
  • Create new sales channels to sell surplus commodities.
  • Gain distribution on new products and commodities; work with retail clients to improve product exposure, such as shelf positioning, advertising and promotions.
  • Create and manage ad calendars for each customer.
  • Work closely with Regional Sales Managers to provide ongoing support to clients. Clearly communicate all problems surrounding customer service, pricing and ads.
  • Monitor market conditions, product innovations, and competitors' products, prices, and sales.
  • Manage and coordinate truck load times; arrange and direct delivery of orders.
  • Participate in trade shows and customer visits.
  • Cross train as vacation back-up for all levels.
  • Cooperate with supervisors and managers and ensure compliance with all Company policies and Standard Operating Procedures
Education: 
  • Bachelor's degree in Marketing, Business Administration or related field from a four-year college or university preferred but not required
Skills: 

Computer Skills / Special Equipment Knowledge:

  • Computer skills – solid understanding of Microsoft Office.
  • Ability to research and effectively apply customer information, sales data, market data and trend information.
Qualifications: 
  • A minimum of two years of Organic and fresh produce sales experience with increasing levels of responsibility and authority; vegetable sales experience strongly desired.
  • Strong analytical, problem solving and project management skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication style that encourages open and dynamic dialogue and productive interaction between team members.
  • Proven success managing customer relationships and providing outstanding customer service.
  • Ability to leverage qualitative and quantitative results to provide meaningful insight, feedback and recommendations.
