Job Description: 

The Military Produce Group family of companies was established in 1998, beginning with the creation of Hampton Roads Produce. In later years, Midsouth Produce and Sea Island Produce joined our conglomeration of partners that became Military Produce group as it is now. 

Military Produce Group is the primary provider of fresh fruits and vegetables to the Defense Commissary Agency in the Eastern United States and to select overseas commissaries. **This is a completely ON SITE, hourly position. Remote work will not be considered.**

We are seeking a highly motivated and results-driven Sales and Marketing Manager to lead our team in Norfolk, VA. 

As the Sales and Marketing Manager, you will play a pivotal role in researching, developing, and executing effective marketing programs, alongside implementing promotional and pricing strategies. Your strong leadership and managerial skills will be essential in guiding both the marketing and sales staff to achieve company goals and ensure successful program execution.

Responsibilities:

  • Formulate, coordinate, and execute marketing and sales strategies to drive growth and meet targets.
  • Recruit, train, schedule, coach, and oversee marketing and sales staff.
  • Identify industry trends and devise strategies to achieve marketing and sales operational goals for both our company and our valued customers.
  • Develop/execute annual Marketing plan.
  • Develop sales action plans and advertising initiatives to drive marketing and sales objectives, effectively communicating these initiatives to the team.
  • Coordinate display contests, manage Point of Sale (POS) material distribution, analyze results, and distribute awarded prizes.
  • Identify customer needs and retail trends to capitalize on relevant marketing opportunities.
  • Research and implement marketing initiatives to boost product sales and profitability.
  • Cultivate and maintain strong relationships with customers, clients, grower partners, and suppliers.
  • Oversee all pricing activities, product catalogs, Known Value Items (KVI), Market Basket Surveys (MBS), and other contractual obligations related to sales and pricing.
  • Analyze and summarize data and trends to inform leadership teams and develop effective sales strategies.
  • Establish positive working relationships with marketing organizations, agriculture departments, commodity bureaus, and charitable organizations linked to military quality of life.
  • Proactively monitor all commissary initiatives, extending beyond produce, to identify and capitalize on potential additional business opportunities.
  • Maintain a comprehensive understanding of of industry trends by actively participating in educational opportunities, conferences, workshops, staying updated with professional publications, networking with industry peers, and affiliating with relevant organizations.
  • Collaborate with sales, marketing, customer service, procurement, merchandising, and floral department managers to achieve company-wide objectives.
  • Oversee website management, digital assets, social media accounts, and web asset dashboard.

This is an on-site, salaried, exempt position.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in business, marketing, or a related field or equivalent work experience.
  • 3-5 years of experience as a sales/pricing representative, preferably in the grocery/fresh foods industry.
  • 2-3 years of fresh produce/grocery management experience preferred.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and effective communication at all managerial levels.
  • Familiarity with data analysis and reporting.
  • In-depth understanding of fresh produce sales and marketing strategies.
  • Proven ability to comprehend and adhere to company policies, procedures, and contractual obligations.
  • Demonstrated ability to meet the requirements of each contract.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong ability to meet deadlines and support program timelines.
