JOB FILLED - Sustainability Coordinator

Job Description: 

Sun Pacific began in 1969 with the purchase of 72 acres of oranges in Exeter, California.

Today Sun Pacific owns more than 40,000 acres in California and ships 35 million boxes of fresh fruit annually. As the acreage has grown, so has our expertise and attention to detail in farming and packing the highest quality product.

Today, with over 3,000 employees, Sun Pacific is the largest grower/shipper of navel oranges in the world, and the largest grower/shipper of table grapes, mandarins, and kiwi in North America.

As a key member of our operations team, you will be responsible for coordinating the implementation of sustainability initiatives that reduce our environmental footprint and promote sustainable agricultural practices. This includes conducting environmental assessments, developing and tracking key performance indicators (KPIs), and collaborating with internal stakeholders to integrate sustainability principles into business decisions.

You will be responsible for tracking sustainability trends and requirements in the agriculture industry and initiatives of Sun Pacific customers. A strong background in environmental science, sustainability, or a related field is required, along with excellent communication and project management skills. 

REPORTING RELATIONSHIP:

  • The Sustainability Coordinator will report directly to the Senior Vice President of Operations. 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 

  • Serving as the primary point of contact for customer engagement in areas of sustainability and environmental record keeping requirements; 
  • Coordinating the implementation of sustainability initiatives to reduce environmental impact (e.g. energy efficiency, water conservation, waste reduction); 
  • Monitoring and reporting on key environmental performance indicators (KPIs) such as carbon footprint, water usage, and waste reduction; 
  • Participating in customer and 3rd party compliance audits relating to Sun Pacific’s sustainability programs; 
  • Communicating sustainability initiatives and progress to stakeholders, including executive management, employees, customers and auditors; 
  • Developing and implementing stakeholder engagement strategies to promote sustainability awareness and education. 
  • Facilitating cross-functional teams to identify sustainability-related issues and gather data and information needed to enhance the sustainability programs; 
  • Developing and maintaining sustainability reports, including annual sustainability reports and other requirements; 
  • Maintain a calendar of critical dates for audit and customer submission deadlines and ensure that all deadlines are met; 
  • Assisting in the development and implementation of projects to achieve sustainability goals, such as energy efficiency upgrades or sustainable agricultural practices; 
  • Staying up-to-date with industry trends, best practices, and regulatory requirements related to sustainability by conducting research on new sustainability technologies and strategies; 
  • Collaborating with internal teams to integrate sustainability principles into business operations;
  • Providing education and training on sustainability principles and practices to employees;
  • Developing employee engagement programs to promote sustainability awareness and behavior change; 
  • Developing partnerships with external organizations to advance sustainability goals; and, 
  • Ensuring compliance with relevant laws, regulations, and industry standards related to sustainability. 

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS: 

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Environmental Sciences or related field preferred; and, 
  • Possession of a CDL and an acceptable driving record insurable by the company’s insurance provider. 

SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES: 

  • Strong decision-making, analytical and organizational skills; 
  • Ability to communicate effectively in verbal and written form across all levels of the organization;
  • Some travel required (up to 5%); 
  • Proficient with programs in the MS Office suite with particular skill in Excel; 
  • Ability to organize, prioritize and manage multiple responsibilities projects and tasks; and, 
  • Ability to stand, walk, climb stairs, work in close proximity to moving equipment, bend stoop, kneel and perform repetitive motion as required to perform the essential duties of the job for long periods at a time. 

COMPENSATION:

  • $25.00 - $30.00 per hour, DOE
