Paramount Farming Company is building a national beekeeping operation and is currently seeking individuals interested in a Beekeeper Apprenticeship/ Internship. This position will assist in the management, care and evaluation of bee colonies and business related tasks.
The apprenticeship/internship is specifically designed to give individuals the experience needed to become comfortable and confident around bees and the knowledge to become a successful beekeeper. Individuals will receive ample opportunity to practice methods of sustainable beekeeping and understand commercial honey production.
**Beekeeping experience not necessary, will train the right candidate.
Responsibilities of the Beekeeper Apprentice/ Intern include, but are not limited to the following:
- Raise bees to produce honey and pollinate crops.
- Collect and extract honey.
- Transport hives to/from various locations.
- Inspect hives and treat them for disease/parasites.
- Re-queen colonies as needed.
- Build and maintain hives.
Requirements:
Qualifications include, but are not limited to the following:
- B.S. or B.A. in Agriculture, Business or related field desired.
- Valid Driver's License, preferably Class A or B.
- Knowledgeable in bee biology and behavior a plus.
- Knowledge of plant types, cycles, and how and when plants produce nectar, a plus.
- Proficient in the use of a personal computer, Microsoft programs, internet, smart phone. Tech savvy is a plus.
- Fluency in Spanish and English, a plus
Expectations of apprentice/intern include a strong work ethic and a deep interest in bees.
