Job Description: 

Tropical is a food manufacturer, importer and distributor of bulk and packaged snacks & specialty foods. We began with approximately 100 items consisting mostly of our snack mixes, dried fruit, nuts, seeds, and a few candies, beans, grains and flours. Today our product line has grown to over 3000 items. We are currently searching for a Grocery Sales Development Manager to join our team in Charlotte, NC.

As the Grocery Sales Development Manager you are responsible for the growth and development of grocery accounts within your assigned regions. You will develop business partnerships through corporate level negotiations and management of assigned broker representatives within your assigned region. You will also design and implement promotional and merchandising programs with existing and new accounts while enhancing our company revenue growth and profitability.

Requirements: 
  • Bachelor's degree in Business Management or similar study from four-year college or university.
  • Five to six years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. 
  • Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. 
  • Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume.
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
  • May be required to travel up to 50% of the time.
Responsibilities & Duties: 
  • Interacts with Director of Grocery Sales daily to develop the growth of the organization’s grocery sales.
  • Executes developed strategies for establishing partnerships and business relationships to market our products to the corporate grocery accounts.
  • Collaborates with internal departments, such as marketing, sales, and operations, and external broker partners.
  • Seeks out and researches prospective new business through making phone calls, traveling, attending conferences, and utilizing the Internet.
  • Markets our company and products through trade show exhibits and customer specific buying shows.
  • Educates and provides training support to our customers regional and store level personnel.
  • Offers suggestions for pricing and margin requirements for new customer and program opportunities and identifies issues and opportunities for improvement.
  • Identifies and pursues grocery sales by researching retailers in their region and finding opportunity gaps.
  • Monitors broker sales activity for key accounts within the specified region to ensure grocery sales goals are obtained and techniques are being executed properly.
  • Resolves escalated customer service issues with current customer base.
  • Develops merchandising programs & guidelines, including schematics, to effectively display products.
  • Support and work with billing and accounts receivable to keep account financials current.
  • Provides internal backup support to Charlotte grocery desk as needed to cover PTO or travel needs.
  • Provides input to the management team on new product or service features to be developed to meet current and future customer needs.
  • Quotes prices and credit terms and prepares sales contracts for orders obtained.
  • Estimates date of delivery to customer, based on knowledge of company’s production and delivery schedules.
  • Prepares reports of business transactions and keeps expense accounts.
  • May perform other duties as required.
