Potato Operations Manager

Job Description: 

Grimmway Farms is currently seeking a Potato Operations Manager. This individual will manage both organic and conventional potato unloading, storage, washing, and packing operations in Buttonwillow, CA.

Requirements: 

Work in wet and damp environment.  Exposed to outdoor given climate.  Continuous standing, walking, use of both hands for grasping, pulling and pushing.  Walking on even and uneven surfaces; including stairs and ladders, sight, hearing, sitting, bending, twisting, stooping, climbing, reaching forward, reaching overhead and below the shoulders.

Responsibilities & Duties: 
  • Ensure that all mechanical refrigeration and electrical systems are functioning properly for production and storage operations.
  • Promptly report all malfunctions requiring maintenance to the Maintenance Manager or Maintenance Supervisor on duty. 
  • Record all production data by field name and number as required. 
  • Schedule production personnel as needed. 
  • Coordinate all personnel issues, including payroll status changes, with the Human Resources Department. 
  • Ensure the training, supervision, and performance of all production personnel.  All disciplinary actions must be documented and periodically reviewed with the General Manager. 
  • Ensure that adequate employee safety training, including “job specific”, is performed on a regular basis, and that all such training is documented.
Qualifications: 
  • Must have a minimum of 5 years managerial experience in production operations. 
  • Must possess mastery of potato post harvest characteristics. 
  • Degree in post harvest handling of perishables (preferably tubers) a plus.
  • Must have the ability to manage the work force, equipment, storage and product.
  • Must have knowledge of raw material to finished product.
  • Must be able to understand and monitor product flow.
  • Must have high level analytical aptitude and computer systems knowledge.
  • Knowledge of PLC, automated controls, and refrigeration systems a plus. 
  • Must have the ability to train and instruct all subordinates. 
  • Must have the ability to set up production using a production order sheet.
  • Must have the ability to work with people and have good communication skills.
  • Must ensure that all equipment and personnel are operating safely. 
  • Must have good knowledge of company policies.
