Job Description:

In this position you will serve as a staff agronomist assisting farm managers and contract growers with the development and implementation of sound agronomic practices and research.

Requirements: 
  • Bachelor’s degree in agronomy, soils, or related field.
  • CCA license preferred and/or a willingness to complete and maintain requirements for the license, and to attend on going educational programs in plant and soil fertility.
  • Strong verbal and analytical skills with the ability to interact effectively with all levels of employees and management. 
  • Computer literate with a good working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Outlook, and Excel.    
  • Must have a clean DMV record. 
  • Must pass pre-placement drug/alcohol screen.
  • Must be able to travel when needed.

Physical Requirements:

The agronomist will be hands on; facilitating, implementing and overseeing trials in the field for the duration of the crop. Continuous use of both hands; including grasping, pulling and pushing; walking on even and uneven surfaces; reaching overhead and below the shoulder, twisting, sitting, lifting, bending, walking, stooping, climbing, sight, hearing. 
 

Responsibilities & Duties: 
  • Propose fertilizer and soil amendment recommendations for the various crops throughout the company.
  • Keep up with pesticide regulations and inform farm managers and grower representatives of changes in the regulations and pesticide labels. 
  • Conduct field research in plant and soil fertility, irrigation, pesticides, growth regulators, and new technologies that can bring value and improvement to the farming operations.
  • Meet and build upon already strong established relationships with various vendors that would like to trial their materials for research purposes.
  • Work with government agencies in regards to new laws and regulations and compliance to them (i.e. nitrogen management certification, etc.). 
  • Bring any up-to-date and pertinent agricultural or agronomic information to the company.
  • Upon conclusion of trials - quantify the efficacy of materials with basic statistics in a written summation.
  • Be involved in water and tissue analysis, along with irrigation source quality.
