Job Description: 

The general manager of the Asia Pacific region is responsible for overall leadership and driving sales and supply activities within our regional business portfolio, working closely with our global grower, marketing, logistics and distribution center teams to ensure best-in-class supply chains that facilitate quality and consistent deliveries for all regional sales needs, and an infrastructure that supports the needs of the business today and into the future. You’ll take ownership of internal and external relationships and the ongoing growth of the business by organizing, planning, coordinating and overseeing pricing, operations and service growth strategy, while also leading strategic planning, process improvement and activities to evaluate execution and progress. 

This position would ideally be based in China (e.g. Hong Kong, Shanghai), Europe (e.g. Amsterdam, Berlin) or North America (e.g. Minneapolis, MN, Monterey, CA, or Phoenix, AZ). There is long-term potential for the role to be based in China.

Requirements: 
  • Bachelor’s degree or higher.
  • 8+ years produce industry experience with heavy focus on business development, managing supply and developing strong supply chains.
  • Experience with international trade and global supply chains.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills, with the ability to build successful teams and formal/informal people management experience.
  • Strong business and financial acumen.
  • Proven ability to work collaboratively and influence others, including experience working in a matrix organization.
  • Experience with business intelligence tools and reporting.
  • Strong strategic orientation, influence skills and business acumen.
  • Clear verbal and written communication skills, including active listening.
  • Open to coaching and guidance.
  • Fluent English is required.  Proficiency in Mandarin and French preferred. Additional languages a plus.
  • Collaborative outlook and attitude.
  • Up to 50% travel with ability to travel easily within all continents for meetings with customers and suppliers.

Responsibilities & Duties: 
  • Drive sales growth within the assigned region to highest potential profitability.
  • Create an overall strategy that supports the regional vision and is executed through the full suite of services we market to our customer and supplier base.
  • Assess industry trends, evaluate competition and identify profitable regional, national and global growth opportunities. 
  • Create strategy, forecasts, timelines and annual business plans which establish tone and expectations to meet company annual growth goals related to finance, sales, supply and people. 
  • Create a culture of continuous innovation through analyzing and understanding trends in the industry, exploring new areas of opportunity in sales, services and product development, and creating new processes and/or infrastructure to support growth.
  • Support the use of account management best practices in order to foster the growth of new and existing customer and supplier relationships. 
  • Enlist, as needed, the services and support of divisional sourcing resource team, sales, category and grower development and marketing resources.
  • Collaborate with internal business units, including IT for implementation and process improvement
  • Monitor budget and financial performance as it relates to Net Revenue, Operating Expenses, Gross Net Revenue and Operating Income, Personnel/Net Rev, Operating Income/Net Rev, and general expenses.
  • Review all contracts and documented agreements; ensure review by CHR Legal dept., and proper executive authorizations are acquired.
  • Manage currency exchange and be aware of all drivers of financial differences between the dollar and existing country currency, mitigate risks
  • Ensure compliance with corporate carrier management (where applicable) and any local laws and policies related to the use of suppliers and carriers are understood and enforced.
  • Manage communication through weekly, monthly, and quarterly meetings with direct reports, regional/divisional leadership teams regarding activities and opportunities. 
  • Ensure performance management exists for all regional employees, including mid-year and year-end reviews, regular coaching/feedback and personal development plans.
  • Support and oversee the training and development of all region employees and ensures performance competency is achieved through learning objectives.
