Sales Manager

Job Description: 

The Sales Manager will establish and grow the Company’s imported fruit business by cultivating and managing profitable customer relationships, gaining distribution on new products and commodities, and working with retailers and distributors to increase sales. The individual in this role must thrive in a fast-paced, changing environment that is subject to long hours as business requires. This is an on-site position based in San Juan Bautista, CA.

Responsibilities & Duties: 
  • Strategize with the Sales Director and Sales Managers on effective methods to grow sales and gain new customers.
  • Manage and increase daily sales of market priced commodities such as apples, pears, mangos, avocados, blueberries and strawberries.
  • Answer customers’ questions about products, prices, availability, product uses, and claims.
  • Create new sales channels to sell surplus commodities. Re-establish previous accounts.
  • Manage customers’ claims from start to end.
  • Accurately and effectively enter sales orders in Food Link, I-Trade, and other databases.
  • Monitor market conditions, competitors’ products, prices, and sales to other customers.
  • Ensure compliance with all Company policies, Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), and Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs) as outlined in the Code of Federal Regulations, Title 21 – Section 110.
  • Manage special projects and perform other duties as assigned.
  • Change Management: Adaptable to a fast-paced, shifting work environment. Willing to remain flexible to accommodate changing business conditions, work requirements and scheduling needs.
  • Detail oriented: Attention to detail, ability to focus on the project or task at hand and consistently deliver error free results.
Education: 
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Marketing, Business Administration or related field preferred.
  • A minimum of five (5) years of fresh produce sales experience with increasing levels of responsibility and authority.
  • Proven success managing customer relationships and providing outstanding customer service.
Skills: 
  • Excellent verbal and written communication style that encourages open and dynamic dialogue and productive interaction between team members.
  • Self-starter and independent with the ability to multitask (sell multiple commodities out of multiple distribution centers to multiple customers on a daily basis)
  • Ability to leverage qualitative and quantitative results to provide meaningful insight, feedback and recommendations.
  • Strong analytical, problem solving and project management skills.
  • Solid proficiency with Microsoft Office, especially Word and Outlook.
  • Understanding and experience using Customer Management Systems, Warehouse Management Systems (WMS) and Inventory Control Systems.
  • Ability to research and effectively apply customer information, sales data, market data and trend information.
  • Familiarity with and/or ability to learn Velocity, Food Link, I-Trade, and W-Buy
