George Chiala Farms, Inc., (the“Company”) a California corporation, was established in 1972, is a family-owned and operated company that specializes in the production of prepared vegetable ingredients, offering many Certified Kosher and Certified Organic options. Annually, the farm processes over 120 million pounds of vegetable ingredients, which requires approximately 150 million pounds of raw vegetables. Throughout the past few decades, the farm has gained access to the highest grade vegetables in many world markets and has also expanded their own farming operations. The Company grows a wide assortment of conventional and organic fruits and vegetables throughout California.
We are currently seeking a Senior Maintenance Manager in Hollister, California.
Summary of Position:
Our Senior Maintenance Manager will oversee all maintenance operations at our Hollister facility. Optimal functioning of our machinery and systems is Key in this role. The maintenance manager will coach and mentor the team, develop and implement maintenance procedures, ensure compliance, is able to manage and prioritize multiple projects effectively and is proficient in Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS).
- Developing Maintenance Plans: Collaborate with maintenance supervisors and teams to develop comprehensive maintenance plans for all equipment and facilities. These plans should include preventive maintenance schedules, routine inspections, and corrective actions as needed.
- Resource Management: Allocate resources effectively to support maintenance activities, including manpower, tools, spare parts, and equipment. Ensure that resources are available when needed to minimize downtime and maximize productivity.
- Monitoring Performance: Implement systems to monitor the performance of equipment and facilities, including key performance indicators (KPIs) such as uptime, reliability, and maintenance costs. Analyze data regularly to identify trends, address issues proactively, and optimize maintenance processes.
- Ensuring Compliance: Stay updated on relevant regulations and standards governing equipment maintenance and facility operations. Ensure that maintenance activities comply with all applicable regulations to maintain safety and regulatory compliance.
- Continuous Improvement: Foster a culture of continuous improvement within the maintenance team by encouraging innovation, implementing best practices, and seeking opportunities to enhance efficiency and effectiveness. Regularly review maintenance processes and procedures to identify areas for improvement and implement changes as needed.
- Communication and Collaboration: Maintain open communication channels with other departments, stakeholders, and leadership to coordinate maintenance activities, provide updates on equipment status, and address any concerns or issues that may arise.
- Collaborate with other departments to support organizational goals and initiatives.
Job Specific Duties & Responsibilities:
- Directly supervise maintenance employees, providing leadership and guidance to ensure efficient and effective performance: This involves actively managing the maintenance team, providing direction, support, and mentorship to enhance their performance and ensure that maintenance tasks are completed effectively and efficiently.
- Implement continuous process disciplines such as Six Sigma, Lean, or Total Quality Management in a manufacturing environment to enhance productivity and quality.
- Communicate effectively with team members and stakeholders through strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
- Manage maintenance operations in a continuous manufacturing environment, ensuring equipment reliability and uptime: This involves overseeing all aspects of maintenance operations, including scheduling preventive maintenance, responding to equipment breakdowns, and implementing measures to maximize equipment uptime and reliability.
- Utilize experience in food processing/manufacturing to address specific challenges and requirements in the industry.
- Negotiate contracts and purchase agreements effectively to optimize procurement processes and ensure cost efficiency.
- Utilize experience with ERP/MaintainX systems to streamline maintenance operations and facilitate data-driven decision-making: Leveraging ERP or CMMS (Computerized Maintenance Management System) software can help streamline maintenance workflows, track maintenance activities, and generate data-driven insights to inform decision-making and optimize maintenance strategies.
- Maintain awareness of federal, state, and local environmental, safety, and industrial hygiene laws and regulations to ensure compliance.
- Assist in the budgetary process and administer programs to control material and labor costs, contributing to cost-effective maintenance practices: This involves collaborating with finance and procurement teams to develop maintenance budgets, monitor expenditures, and implement cost-saving initiatives to optimize maintenance spending and optimize budget allocations.
- Demonstrate strong project management skills, managing multiple projects concurrently and effectively handling challenging situations during critical projects:
- Apply expertise in PLCs, process controls, sensors, and mechanical systems to ensure the optimal performance of equipment such as conveyors, packaging systems, and automated machinery: Troubleshoot equipment issues, optimize performance, and implement preventive maintenance measures to ensure reliable operation.
- Provide mentorship and coaching to the team for continuing efforts to advance skills and career development.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering, Maintenance Management, or related field (preferred).
- Proven experience in direct supervision of maintenance employees, preferably in a continuous manufacturing environment.
- Experience in food processing/manufacturing is highly desirable.
- Experience implementing continuous process disciplines such as Six Sigma, Lean, or TQM.
- Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
- Strong negotiation skills for handling contracts and purchase agreements.
- Proficiency with ERP/SAP systems and able to oversee budgetary process & control material and labor costs. Familiarity with plant cost accounting procedures.
- Basic understanding of federal, state, and local environmental, safety, and industrial hygiene laws and regulations.
- Solid project management skills.
- Experience with PLCs, process controls, sensors, and mechanical systems.
