JOB FILLED - Food Safety and Regulatory Compliance Specialist

Job Description: 

Established in 1979, Central West Produce has grown and matured into one of the elite strawberry shippers of North America. We are a multifaceted organization, with our strong sales and hardworking determination, we have expanded our initial 27 acre operation to a fully integrated Grower and Marketer in 6 different regions throughout North America. 

Under general direction of the Food Safety Manager, administers the organic certification program for Central West Produce (CWP), completes multiple processes within the Foreign Supplier Verification Program (FSVP) with international growers, and maintains compliance with water quality regulations for various water agencies.

Essential Functions

  • Manage the Organic Certification Program for Eat Sweet Farms/Central West Produce
  • Coordinate communication with ranches regarding new material vetting, record keeping, NOP practices
  • Maintain and present all necessary documentation for organic certification as a grower and shipper in audits
  • Work with outside growers, sales dept, and grower accounting to ensure all processes are in place and functioning to ensure organic integrity
  • Support Food Safety Manager in carrying out the Foreign Supplier Verification Program for CWP
  • Communicate with and obtain all necessary documentation from international growers necessary for FSVP
  • Analyze and provide follow up within CWP’s FSVP to determine approval of international growers
  • Support Food Safety Manager with food safety audits and corrective actions
  • Manage Eat Sweet Farm’s Water Quality Regulatory Compliance
  • Work with ranch managers, water quality consultants and the Director of Operations to conduct all monitoring and reporting requirements for water quality control boards
  • Maintain current institutional knowledge and compliance with all water related regulations from water boards, groundwater management agencies, and others

Physical Demands:

Work is performed in a standard office & field environment where work pressures, disturbances of workflow, and/or irregularities in the work schedule are expected and occur on an intermittent basis. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to speak or hear. The employee frequently is required to stand, walk, write, and drive. The employee must be able to travel to the multiple districts within the organization.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work:

This is a full-time position. Days and hours of work are Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Evening and weekend work may be required as job duties demand. Periodic travel within strawberry growing regions of CA is required. Must also be able to travel to Florida and/or Mexico infrequently (once or twice a year).

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree required
  • Bilingual Spanish and English required, with ability to read, write, and speak Spanish well
  • Experience in agriculture, food safety or water quality desired
  • Possession of driver’s license and ability to be insured to drive a company vehicle
  • Excellent computer skills, specifically Excel and Word
  • Exceptional organizational skills, with the ability to work independently and monitor multiple projects and deadlines
  • Must be reliable and precise – attention to detail essential
  • Capable of prioritizing workflow in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong problem-solving skills / research and resolution skills
