We are currently looking for a Global Perishables Procurement Logistics Specialist. The Global Perishables Procurement Logistics Specialist also known as the GPP, acts as Whole Foods Market purchasing agent for both large and small scale suppliers within the US and around the world. In addition to purchasing, GPP provides a wide range of services to our regional business partners; including analytics, compliance, accounting, and logistics.

Team Summary: The Logistics team is responsible for insuring the goods we purchase are delivered on time and in optimal condition. This requires a highly specialized set of skills, including, but not limited to organizing orders by loading location, cubing trucks for optimal cost efficiency, dispatch and tracking, and vendor and customer communications.

Responsibilities & Duties: 
  • Provide excellent customer service.
  • Communicate with dispatchers, drivers, cooler personnel, vendors, receiving team members, regional buyers, national buyers, accounting team members, and the rest of the transportation team.
  • Accurately manage communication flow of 300 to 600 phone, text, and e-mail messages per day.
  • Provide guidance to regional receivers and order management teams to assist them in their tasks.
  • Combine multiple product orders to create loads with simultaneous goals of maintaining  temperature compatibility, utilization, and cost while maintaining sustainable routing
  • Assist other team members to meet their deadlines.
  • Accurately and effectively use all available business tools and systems.
  • Communicate load status to or regional business partners clearly and completely
  • Communicate loading issues to internal GPP business partners clearly and completely.
  • Insure accurate freight and burden information is entered prior to passing order to accounting.
  • Meet established daily deadlines.
  • Resolve freight billing discrepancies.
  • Assist in forecasting transportation needs as directed by the Logistics Team leader.
  • Assure strong, sustainable relationships with our transportation vendor partners.
  • Track trucks while loading and through delivery to first receiver.
  • Assist in resolving problem arrivals quickly and completely
  • Contribute towards achieving all logistics performance goals
  • Participate in developing the GPP buying office into a state of the art service operation that creates the best perishable program possible for Whole Foods Markets 
Ideal Candidate: 

The successful candidate is a highly organized self-starter, with excellent communication skills and is able to adapt to constantly changing industry and seasonal conditions. This team serves all purchasing disciplines within GPP and reports to the Global Senior Coordinator of Facilities. 

Qualifications: 
  • An ability to handle stress while maintaining a high level of productivity, organization, and communication.
  • Experience in produce, floral, meat, and seafood logistics preferred.
  • A commitment to excellent customer service.
  • Quick on feet, make quick but considered decisions, strong math skills.
  • Excellent communication & computer skills.
  • Willingness to work early mornings & take occasional late night calls -some weekends responsibilities as well.
  • An understanding of perishable business terminology and industry standards.
  • Patience, Perseverance, & Tolerance.
  • Actively participate in the ongoing development of a world class logistics team .
