Job Description:

At over 100 sites through the West’s primary growing regions, Western Precooling and our associated companies deliver the experience, service, equipment, and peace of mind that growers and shippers need. 
 
Provides Engineering support to the development, maintenance and quality control of Western Precooling and its affiliated companies equipment and cold storage facilities.  Position is based in Castroville, with travel to Western Precooling locations and partner sites, such as Yuma, Oxnard, El Centro, Huron and the San Joaquin Valley. 
Responsibilities & Duties: 
  • Working closely with the Chief Engineer, participates in the engineering, maintenance and quality control of all projects undertaken by the Company.  Ensures all plans and specifications are followed and work confirms to the standards of the Company;
  • Ensures that equipment usage and maintenance records are maintained and preventative maintenance schedules are in order and acted upon;
  • Performs calculations for equipment maintenance and design;
  • Refine the documentation system of equipment records and designs.  Works closely with field technicians and Director of Engineering to create a series of User Manuals for our equipment;
  • Develop short and long-range engineering, maintenance and quality control strategy and planning;
  • Works closely with Director of Engineering and all Area Managers and Service Crews to develop clear communication channels,
  • As required, serve on Process Safety Management and Risk Management Program committees (Process Hazard Analysis reviews, etc.)
Education: 
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering
Qualifications: 
  • Experience working for a refrigeration contractor on systems design a plus;
  • Computer literate with MS Office product offerings, including Excel, Word, PowerPoint, etc. Proficiency in AutoCAD a plus;
  • Ability to work independently or in a team environment;
  • Must possess excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to effectively communicate with all members and levels of the organization;
  • Ammonia refrigeration background relating to the precooling industry a plus;
  • Experience managing/supervising a refrigeration equipment maintenance process a plus;
  • Must be well organized and a self-starter;
  • Must be able to multi-task, prioritize and adjust tasks in accordance with changing deadlines and priorities;
  • Nominal overnight travel.
