Sales Assistant/Coordinator

Job Description: 

Van Groningen & Sons, Inc. based in Manteca, CA is a family owned, grower – packer – shipper of premium fresh fruits and vegetables including melons, sweet corn, pumpkins, fall harvest ornamentals, almonds, walnuts and feed crops.  We are also in the midst of developing and implementing a value added / processing component to our business.  We have experienced significant growth over the past 10 years and have very ambitious goals to continue that growth strategy in the years to come.

We are currently seeking a Sales Assistant/Coordinator in our Manteca, CA location. This individual will provide the sales team with support and coordination with everyday tasks. Our plan for the chosen candidate is to eventually move up this individual to become an account manager /sales once experience is gained and quality of work is proven over time.

Responsibilities & Duties: 

Primary

Interact constantly with each individual sales person (4) to help with daily tasks which may include but are not limited to the following:

  • Answering incoming sales phone calls and directing them accordingly.
  • Assist with order entry received from customers by phone, email or web based platforms (i.e. itrade network, etc.).
  • Assist with sending passings and completing shipments for invoicing.
  • Communicate with our in house and 3rd party shipping coordinators if discrepancies are found with shipping documents.
  • Assist in obtaining POD’s for specific customers or for shipments that discrepancies arise after shipment / invoicing.
  • Prepare and distribute daily quote sheets to particular customers and / or to our sales staff for their distribution.
  • Prepare and distribute daily product photos and current product attributes  to particular customers and / or to our sales staff for their distribution.
  • Assist in compiling harvest / production updates and entering this information into our Famous software for sales staff use.
  • Assist sales department by calling retail store produce managers for assigned customers to gather bi-weekly orders for direct store drops.

Secondary 

  • Research and develop new customer accounts for our new value added / processed products.
  • Provide coverage for sales staff when they are absent.
  • Assist transportation department, if needed, with daily tasks / paperwork.

Conduct marketing functions which may include but are not limited to:

  • Attend trade shows as needed.
  • Developing new or altering existing product sheets.
  • Assist in web site and social media updates.

Qualifications / Additional Skills:

  • Agricultural background preferred
  • Good communication and written skills
  • Ability to use Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint and learn Famous
  • Detail oriented
  • Driven / determined
  • Organized
  • Decision maker

Work Schedule:

Peak season (March – October)

  • Start around 6:00 – 6:30 am M-F
  • Saturday AM hours (2-4) needed most Saturdays
  • Some after hours will be needed but typically can be done from home
  • Available by cell phone

Off-peak season (November – February)

  • Start at 8:00 am
  • No Saturday work needed
  • Typically no after hours needed
  • Available by cell phone

   This position will work less during off peak season and significantly more during peak season

Education: 
  •  Bachelor’s degree in Agribusiness, marketing, or other related field preferred
