Operations Manager-PM Shift

Job Description: 

We currently have an opening for an Operations Manager for the PM shift in Portland, OR. The Operation Manager’s overall responsibility is to manage and direct the Drivers, Loaders and basic functions of the PM Shift. She/he will ensure operations are conducted within guidelines established by Good Manufacturing Practices, producing products which meet or exceed customer and company quality expectations in a safe environment. Management of costs, efficiency and volume to ensure targets are maintained at or better than budgeted or standards levels. This person leads the company’s effort in the area of continuous improvement including but not limited to food safety, the controlling or reduction of direct and variable product costs and overhead.

Responsibilities & Duties: 
  • Oversee warehouse operations which includes Warehouse Managers and up to 150 associates
  • Responsible for training and performance of all personnel.
  • Adjust staffing levels up or down based on current volumes.
  • Track productivity data and implement programs for improvement.
  • Conduct scheduled safety meetings with the shift managers and dock workers on a regular basis.
  • Ensure compliance to safe work practices at all times.
  • Responsible for customer service by proactively looking at their operational needs and communicating either directly or via staff.
  • Ensure all contractual metrics for inbound and outbound processing, and inventory control, etc., are consistently met or exceeded.
  • Responsible for maintaining a high level of accuracy (99.5%) on all outbound shipments in order to avoid claims.
  • Must be able to operate in an efficient/cost conscious manner so that all budgeted objectives are achieved.
  • Maintain a clean and organized facility.
  • Work closely with Human Resources Department on all personnel issues.
  • Identify areas for improvement in all aspects of the warehouse operating, further develop standard operating procedures.
  • Manage the facilities housekeeping program to ensure all areas are continuously free of all debris.
  • Create and maintain a well-trained staff that could be promoted through cross training and mentoring.
  • Adherence to all management by objectives.
Qualifications: 
  • 5 years managing high volume consumer distribution operation.
  • Experience managing at least 50 direct reports
  • Produce/perishable industry experience strongly preferred
  • Operating with relevant regulatory requirements, e.g., FDA, OSHA, EPA, USDA, EEOC, etc. 
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to lead and motivate others
