Job Description: 

As the processing branch of Church Brothers, True Leaf Farms has been key to the comprehensive services provided by Church Brothers. Spring Mix, Spinach, Whole Leaves, Wash and Trim, “Teen Green™” Snack Items and Fresh Cut processed items are all produced within the True Leaf plant.

True Leaf Farms is seeking a Safety and Human Resources Generalist for their Salinas, Ca. location.  This person will administer policies relating to all phases of human resources and safety activities.

Responsibilities & Duties: 
  • Assist with employee relations and investigations, policy administration and keep current with applicable employment and safety laws.
  • Responsible for identifying hazardous workplace conditions.  Trains employees on safety, company policies and procedures, and regulations pertaining to employee safety. 
  • Work with Supervisors to ensure all employees are aware of the dangers and hazards of the job and are well trained on how to work safely.
  • Ensures compliance with all applicable federal and state health and safety regulations and ensures necessary records are maintained and prepared according to established guidelines. Participates in Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) and California Occupational Safety and Health Administration (Cal-OSHA) inspections, providing inspectors with appropriate documents and identifying safety measures. 
  • Prepare and update employee master list for proper government reporting. Ensures that the correct termination codes are properly used and entered in the system to reduce time searching for rehire eligibility.
  • Maintain Human Resource and Safety Information System records. 
  • Provide training to new and returning employees in Employee Handbook, Sexual Harassment, Safety, and all safety related topics.
  • Assist in the creation of job descriptions for employment positions within the company.
  • Identify and coordinate language training for employees.
  • Investigate and attempt to resolve employees’ concerns or objections to disciplinary actions.  
  • Maintains knowledge of legal requirements and government reporting regulations affecting human resources and ensures policies, procedures, and reporting are in compliance.
  • Assist in the recruitment and interview process and refers employees to fill vacant positions.
  • Assist in completion of new hire, rehire paperwork.
  • Plans and conducts new employee orientation to foster positive attitude toward Company goals.
  • Maintains records of personnel transactions such as hires, promotions, transfers, performance reviews, and terminations, and employee statistics for government reporting.
  • Advises management in appropriate resolution of employee relation issues.
  • Support production managers in the administration of progressive discipline and other HR policies.
  • Ensure strong open communication channels exist between line personnel and management. 
  • Responds to inquiries regarding policies, procedures, and programs.
  • Administers benefits programs such as leaves of absence and safety incentive plans.
  • Conducts wage surveys within labor market to determine competitive wage rate. 
  • Assist in the preparation of employee separation notices and related documentation, and conducts exit interviews, when appropriate, to determine reasons behind separations.
Education: 

Bachelor's degree (B. A.) from a four-year college or university; and/or a minimum of five years related experience and/or training.

Skills: 

Language Skills:                     
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.  Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.  Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
 
Mathematical Skills:                     
Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume.  Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
 
Reasoning Ability:                    
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
 
Computer Skills:                     
To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Database software; Human Resource systems; Internet software; Spreadsheet software and Word Processing software.
 
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations: 
SHRM and Cal-OSHA certification desirable, but not required.
 
Other Skills and Abilities:                   
Bi-lingual/Bi-literate in English/Spanish required.
Able to work day and/or afternoon shifts as required by the job.
