We are currently searching for a Director of Purchasing – Produce to join our team of Roadies in Louisville, KY.
As the Director of Purchasing – Produce you are responsible for managing all areas of produce, which includes, but is not limited to distributor consolidation, negotiating distributor mark-ups, identifying and securig raw materials, negotiating pricing for raw materials, and managing all food safety issues with QA.
- Business Degree or acceptable alternate degree.
- 5 - 7 years in produce industry as a buyer, grower, distributor, or related field.
- Experienced and knowledgeable with a proven track record in the produce industry.
- Experience with developing and maintaining produce items and product negotiations.
- Demonstrates strong work ethic and builds lasting relationships.
- Adaptability/flexibility, with the ability to react quickly to changing requirements from internal and external conditions, while maintaining good communication with all parties involved.
- Strong interpersonal skills to demonstrate teamwork, leadership and creative flexibility while dealing with all levels of the organization.
- Travel 30% - 50%
- Ensure all produce specs are correct and current.
- Continue to consolidate produce distributor locations and identify possible new distributor partners.
- Generate guidelines for the handling of produce with distributors, which includes shipping to the distributor, storing at the distribution warehouse, and shipping to our restaurants.
- Work with growers and produce distributors to identify/source raw produce ingredients and negotiate competitive pricing for these items with either growers or distributors.
- Negotiate mark-ups with produce distributors that is based on true distributor costs.
- Work closely with QA to ensure produce traceability and safety.
- Set up program with distributors to get their weekly pricing to ensure it is correct, and send to stores to ensure they are being charged correctly, and keep the field advised of the produce marketplace.
- Work with Product Coaches on safe handling of produce items.
- Develop strong vendor relationships with suppliers and distributors.
- Oversee the supply, consistency, quality, and safety of produce from farm to restaurant.
- Continuously search for alternative supply vendor options.
- Resolves delivery issues between suppliers/growers, distributors, and store locations.
- Audit distributors and stores to ensure we are receiving correct products (labels), etc.
- Other duties as assigned.
