Director Grocery Quality Management

Job Description: 

Join our team as our Director Grocery Quality Management.

Primary responsibility is for the overall quality control and standard management of product within Target Grocery. The Director Grocery Quality Management is an influential partner in driving changes to the quality of Target grocery through training, new vendor strategies and acting as a leader of quality initiatives. Responsible for credible, influential, and proactive analysis and research intended to drive superior grocery quality and vendor management. Provides expert decision support across Food Distribution Centers (FDCs), Retail Ops and key vendors.

Requirements: 
  • 10 - 12 years of industry expertise.
  • Willing to travel frequently, especially to the West Coast.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills - ability to direct and influence a team of clients, peers or subordinates.
  • Outstanding project management skills.
  • Strong interpersonal, communications (oral and written) and influencing skills.
  • Strong analytical, conceptual and problem solving skills.
  • Ability to work with all levels of management.
  • Ability to work independently with a high level of initiative and self-motivation.
Responsibilities & Duties: 

Standards/Training Development

  • Leads joint development of perishable product standards with merchandising team.
  • Creates training for FDC quality control teams to reinforce USDA and Target-specific higher quality standards and MOS procedures.
  • Creates standards for a training for C&S Wholesale Grocers quality control teams.
  • Owns training for stores Grocery Executive Team Leader's and Grocery Perishable Assistants to reinforce USDA and Target-specific higher quality standards and appropriate QMOS procedures within the stores.
  • Able to challenge assumptions and influence partner decisions in a positive manner, ensuring company objectives are met.

Vendor Management/Industry Liaison

  • Performance Evaluation: Leads the vendor scoring process, reporting on performance vs. plans and goals, analyzing and proposing changes to scoring methodologies, and interpreting and incorporating changes.
  • Acts as industry liaison with manufacturers and producers on quality standards and specifications.

Decision Support

  • Strategic Initiatives: Serves as key resources on cross-functional teams in proposing, analyzing and implementing key grocery strategic initiatives.
  • Frequent interaction with Retail Operations teams to promote quality standards and procedures.
  • Frequent interaction with FESQA team on joint business planning for quality and food safety.

Team Leadership

  • Provides leadership to a team of 10 FDC Quality Management GLs, ensuring that each team member has the support and training they need to maximize their performance.
  • Ensures that the team is focused on providing value-added support and analysis, creating an atmosphere in which they feel empowered to drive quality improvements.
