Job Description:
Superior Grocers, one of the largest independently-owned chains of grocery stores in Southern California, is looking for a Director of Produce for our corporate office in Santa Fe Springs, California.
The Director of Produce will be expected to lead the Company’s growth for our produce division. This position requires a wide range of skills from high-level strategic thinking to tactical category development.
Responsibilities & Duties:
- Oversee and direct the activities of produce division to ensure targets and projections are met and that inventory levels are managed to achieve turn goals.
- Provide leadership and guidance in produce quality assurance and procedure development and implementation in compliance with Federal, State and local regulatory requirements. Establish goals, monitor progress and achievements.
- Develop and communicate clear expectations for team. Provide regular feedback to ensure continuous development in improving and enhancing department and team to achieve company objectives.
- Develop weekly ad items, special event calendars, promotional programs (Grand Openings, Anniversary sales, etc.). Coordinate and monitor programs to ensure that financial and departmental targets are met.
- Control and maintain budgeted labor costs, gross margins and sales.
- Recognizing current and future merchandising trends and reacting to them.
- Strategic business forecasting, identify competitive advantages, changes in technology trends, changes in markets to meet the customer demand and company goals.
Education:
- Bachelor’s Degree preferred in related field or equivalent combination of education and experience
- 10+ years’ experience in related field, grocery retail preferred
- Extensive knowledge of procurement, merchandising and customer activities
