Job Description: 

SunSelect Produce is a progressive family operated greenhouse company with locations in British Columbia and California.  We produce some of the best greenhouse grown bell peppers, tomatoes and cucumbers in the world.  As a rapidly growing company we offer excellent development opportunities and are currently seeking a Senior Pepper Grower in Tehachapi which is located in Central California.

Our rapid growth has created an exciting opportunity for an experienced Senior Pepper Grower to join our team and serve in a pivotal role that will directly contribute to driving company growth.  This individual will excel in growing our pepper crops in the most efficient way from non-GMO seeds without the use of herbicides, pesticides or genetically modified pollen.

Requirements: 
  • Must have extensive high-tech Bell Pepper Growing experience.
  • Willing to relocate to the area.
  • Must be comfortable with the following working conditions: moving industrial machinery, ability to lift 10-50 lbs, and varied climate.
Responsibilities & Duties: 
  • Climate and irrigation management (climate computer).
  • Explaining and demonstrating proper horticulture techniques.
  • Scouting for pests and diseases.
  • Troubleshooting of growing, harvesting and packing equipment malfunctions.
  • Supervising, training, and coaching of a small team.
  • Participating in the company’s Research and Development projects related to growing and equipment.
  • Contribute to maintaining a positive work environment.
  • Manage the climate systems including the irrigation and boiler systems (requires strong technical skills).
  • Contribute to managing the greenhouse planting plan, the labor needs, IPM, and the COGS.
  • Monitor /develop methods to reduce costs/increase efficiencies and overall asset protection.
  • Responsible for maintaining greenhouse inventory items.
  • Contribute to the forecasting process.
  • Research other greenhouses to be on top of industry trends and methods.
  • Contribute to budgets (yield, labor and other COGS).

Qualifications: 
  • A minimum of two years’ experience in professional horticulture.
  • An Associate Degree or higher in agriculture or a related field, preferred.
  • Must have proven production results with consistent performance records.
  • Driven to excellence and quality performance. 
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills and ability to work in a team environment are critical to success in this position. 
  • Must possess strong analytical abilities.
  • Ability to multi-task, time manage and strong organizational skills.
  • Attention to detail in the accuracy of work required. 
  • Proficient with using computer systems and maintaining records.
  • Experience with HACCP/GFSI, a plus.
