Job Description: 

SunSelect Produce is a progressive family operated greenhouse company with locations in British Columbia and California.  We produce some of the best greenhouse grown bell peppers, tomatoes and cucumbers in the world.  As a rapidly growing company we offer excellent development opportunities and are currently seeking a Labor Manager in Tehachapi which is located in Central California.

We are seeking an enthusiastic, responsible, hard-working person with a great attitude to manage our overall farm and high- tech greenhouse operations. We are looking for someone to manage the fields and crew in the growing months and to oversee our greenhouse in the winter months.

Requirements: 
  • Must have extensive high-tech greenhouse or large scale farming labor management experience with crews of 50+.
  • Must be willing to relocate to the area.
  • Must be able to use logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weakness of alternative solutions, conclusions, or approaches to problems.
Responsibilities & Duties: 
  • Manage and coordinate mowing, tilling, planting, irrigating, scouting, and soil sampling.
  • Manage the equipment, labor, and prioritization of projects/tasks for optimal efficiency.
  • Directly oversee up to 50 people.
  • Assist with in-field equipment repairs to reduce downtime in the field.
  • Manage performance of crew and be involved in hiring, disciplinary actions, and terminations.
  • Responsible for maintaining the image of the fields; mowing ditches, trash, etc.
  • Adhere to GMP Food Safety Practices.
  • Manage and oversee the repair and maintenance of equipment, but also work hands-on on equipment repairs. This would be a working-manager role.
  • Responsible for ordering all parts and completing the final quality check on repairs.
  • Prioritize projects and assign tasks.
  • Update maintenance records on the computer, track parts inventory, DOT files and oil change schedules.
  • Maintain a highly organized and clean appearance of the greenhouse and farm grounds.
  • Maintain a safe work environment and ensure safety practices are being followed.
Education: 
  • Bachelor’s degree with an emphasis in Agriculture.

Ideal Candidate: 
  • Willing to obtain first-aid/emergency responder certification. 
  • Positive & enthusiastic.
  • Well-organized and results oriented.
Qualifications: 
  • Must have excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish.
  • Proficient with using computer systems and maintaining electronic data/records.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills are required to work with and supervise farm equipment operators and mechanics.
  • Flexibility to change and hours of work.
