Regional Sales Manager (California)

Job Description: 

The successful Regional Sales Manager is responsible for the development and performance of all vegetable sales and marketing activities in their region. Provide leadership and coordination in the execution of company policy, strategy and goals as directed by the VP National Vegetable Sales Manager. Provide long and short term direction to the sales and customer service team, leadership towards the achievement of maximum profitability and growth in line with company vision and values. Establish plans and strategies to expand the customer base and contributes to the development of new strategic plans and programs. Maximize both present and long term sales and gross profits. Coordinate with other sales and customer service managers to ensure consistency of policy execution across the country. The Regional Sales manager will continue to perform a vegetable sales representative role by maintaining direct customer accounts and developing new ones in a specific territory within their region. They may also be responsible for hiring and/or supervising 1-2 sales representatives in their region. Key responsibilities include ensuring all work is performed in accordance with safety policies and regulations to promote a safe working environment.

Requirements: 
  • Undergraduate degree required in Agriculture Business or related field
  • 7+ years of experience in sales and a minimum of 3 years of management experience.
  • Strong understanding of customer and market dynamics and requirement
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • 50%+ travel
  • Maintains contact with all clients in the market area to ensure high levels of client satisfaction.
  • Strong motivational and leadership skills
  • Basic concepts about greenhouse operations, quality and productivity
  • Willingness to work nights and/or weekends, hours will change based on business needs
  • Able to work indoors, outdoors, in warehouse or greenhouse all seasons
  • Able to lift up to 40 lbs and Able to stand for prolonged periods of time
  • Ability to take initiative and work with minimum supervision, Self motivated

Responsibilities & Duties: 
  • Develop and implement sales strategies that ensure attainment of company sales goals and profitability.
  • Forecast and execute sales budget within the overall framework of the Vegetable Division sales strategy while increasing sales.
  • Supervise 1-2 sales representatives ensuring their compliance with all strategies and policies and maximizing the sales potential in their region.
  • Product Development: work with customers and production teams to discover and develop new and value added products
  • Development and implementation of marketing plans and action plans to penetrate new markets and grow existing business.
  • Call on commercial farmers and plant program dealers, throughout the territory.
  • Secure credit information to open new accounts and update existing ones.
  • Collect on all sales including finance charges where applicable.
  • Represent and Defend Speedling against all customer claims.
  • Build effective communication with Operations, Sales and Customers in order to understand training and development needs and to provide insight for the improvement of sales and customer service.

  • Provide guidance and leadership to customer service staff in order to maximize sales potential.
  • Provide timely feedback to senior management regarding performance.
  • Control expenses to meet budget guidelines.
  • Attend trade shows as needed.
  • Analyze sales data to determine sales potential and monitor the customer preferences.
  • Analyze profitability reports and work with production teams to maximize profitability
