Requirements: 
  • BS in horticulture or related fields and 5 years of Management/Growing experience.
  • Must have strong managerial experience and be able to work and lead a multitude of different personalities.
  • Must possess the ability to multitask in a fast paced environment.
  • Need to be a detail oriented team player with strong organizational and communication skills.
  • Must have experience in the greenhouse industry and understand the complexities and challenges of such.
  • Must have knowledge of SOP’s.
  • Clean criminal history and drug free.
  • Candidates must be in good physical condition and able to work outdoors for extended periods of time if needed.
  • Ability to demonstrate high ethical standards and set a positive example for co-workers.
  • Current first aid/CPR certification, or ability and willingness to obtain one.

ABILITIES REQUIRED:

  • Basic concepts of greenhouse operations, quality and productivity
  • Good interpersonal communication with ability to work well with others
  • Manufacturing aptitude
  • Willingness to work nights and/or weekends, hours will change based on business needs
  • Ability to tolerate exposure to greenhouse elements such as heat, cold, water and dirt
  • Ability to lift up to 40 lbs and able to stand for prolonged periods of time
  • Ability to take initiative and work with minimum supervision
  • Must be able to work as part of a team
  • Self-motivated
  • Ability to multi-task in a fast paced environment
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of changing situations
Responsibilities & Duties: 

The successful Nursery Manager plans, organizes, directs, and coordinates daily activities for production of horticultural crops. The primary focus is growing of transplants and poinsettias.  Responsibilities for this position include materials, personnel and facility management, logistics, capacity planning and other activities related to oversight of the financial performance of the Nipomo, CA facility.

The Nursery Manager will:

  • Manage nursery to maintain the highest level of customer satisfaction.
  • Grow and deliver large volumes of high quality crops.
  • Hire and direct supervisors and workers planting, growing and shipping plants.
  • Improve and implement spray programs and submit monthly use reports to county.
  • Manage resources including greenhouse and outdoor growing areas, etc. to maximize production and minimize negative weather and other environmental conditions.
  • Select, purchase or approve purchase of raw materials such as seed, plant nutrients, and disease control chemicals.
  • Manage expenses including Capital Expenditure plan and oversee all renovations or additions.
  • Coordinate clerical, record keeping, inventory, requisition, and marketing activities with functional leaders throughout the company.
  • Ensure Injury Illness Prevention Program is up to date with Company-wide policies and procedures at both facilities.
  • Maintain Safety programs and other aspects of regulatory compliance.
  • Oversee and advise on all repairs and maintenance projects.
  • Work closely with all Supervisors, Crew Leaders, and office staff to ensure that all aspects of each facility are running efficiently.
Education: 
  • BS in horticulture or related fields and 5 years of Management/Growing experience
