Job Description: 

If you are a high-achiever, enthusiastic, “can do” procurement leader looking to make a difference and move the needle, read on!  We are looking to expand our team to include a seasoned, bi-lingual Procurement Buyer who has a deep understanding of executing a 365-day sourcing strategy throughout the Americas.  You will be a key player helping us to fulfill the sourcing needs of our growing customer base.

Southern Specialties, Inc. has been a leading grower, importer, processor and shipper of specialty produce grown in the Americas for over twenty years.  Today our products are served in the finest restaurants and are sold in leading retail chain stores and club stores throughout the United States and Canada.  Teaming up with our grower partners, sales and operation experts you will be a part of providing customized supply chain solutions to continue to grow our business and meet the needs of today’s consumer.

Requirements: 

To be a strong fit for the role of Procurement Buyer, you will need:

  • 5-10 years of produce or related industry experience
  • Enthusiastic and motivated by delivering bottom line results within a team environment
  • Project and goal oriented.  Proven leadership skills
  • Exceptional communication both written and oral
  • Highly effective with diverse groups
  • Ability to travel nationally and internationally
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office products
  • Bilingual – English/Spanish Required
Responsibilities & Duties: 
  • Responsible for developing and maintaining grower/vendor relationships
  • Coordinate all activities related to procurement of a commodity beginning with intent to purchase through delivery
  • Supply chain management including interfacing with vendors, negotiating contracts, resource planning, scheduling and perishable inventory control
  • Work with grower/vendors to assure that commodity purchases are in compliance with Southern Specialties quality standards
  • Proven ability to be resourceful to develop year round supply for key commodities
  • Employ strong knowledge of key industry players, competitors, market dynamics, commodity growing regions and supply chain logistics
  • Communicate daily market conditions for price and quantity
  • Manage quality control, product rejections and resolve vendor disputes
  • Ability to successfully work in a fast-paced, rapid growth business environment and maintain self-starter energy, opportunity focus, communicative ability and a well-organized work style that this position requires
Education: 
  • BA/BS in business, horticulture, agriculture or related subject preferred
