Inventory Control-Materials Planner

Job Description: 

San Miguel Produce is an innovative, sustainable family farm that specializes in dark leafy greens. We harvest to order to ensure our valued customers get the very best farm-fresh greens. We are looking for an Inventory Control-Materials Planner to monitor and maintain shortages and overages to a minimum, and maintain all inventory levels daily for replenishment. The ideal candidate is able to work under minimal supervision and direction and can work with a wide span of control and authority. This individual will coordinate and follow up on activities by communicating across departments to properly organize and label any warehouse inventory for future use and coordinate the purchasing of product from outside vendors when outside product is needed.  

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:   

  • Order and coordinate all internal and external products daily, receive and keep inventory of items to meet production demands.
  • Coordinate and expedite the flow of raw product within and/or between departments according to production schedule and projected incoming orders.
  • Analyze demand and forecast information and incorporate current and past information to help predict customer demand.
  • Managing of daily inventory (FIFO method).
  • Utilize in-house system to track inventory.
  • Notify appropriate departments when there are product availability issues.
  • Understand Food Safety guidelines during course of work.
  • Work closely with Quality Control Department to analyze and adjust inventory due to quality issues associated with raw product received and/or in current inventory, dumps/donations in Famous.
  • Rework/Repack product to help minimize dumps/donations.
  • Maintain weekly and monthly records of repacks/reworks, donations and dumped product to calculate monthly costs.
  • Prepare and analyze a variety of sales and customer reports and information.
  • Provide information for sales projections, trends and results.
  • Responsible for attending various meetings and being prepared to provide reporting, both written and verbal, on product information.
  • Develop working knowledge of customer base.
  • Develop strong relationships with various inter-department resources to reinforce knowledge sharing.
  • Coordinate with field and shipping staff on inbound receipts from outside vendors, confirming what was received against what was ordered.  If discrepancies, take appropriate corrective action.
  • Support and backup other customer service team members when needed.
  • Perform other assignments given to support Sales Director and Customer Service Manager

Education: 
  • A.A. Degree from two-year college or technical school in related subject
  • Over 1 year up to and including 3 years of related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience in material planning, procurement and inventory control within a manufacturing/production facility.

  • Bilingual (English/Spanish).

Mathematical Skills:

  • Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. 
  • Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.

Reasoning Ability:

  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

Computer Skills         
To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of:

  • MS Office Suite: Outlook Communication Management software, Word (Word Processing) software, Excel Spreadsheet software.
  • Internet Usage; and PC and/or MAC and Windows Usage experience.
  • Knowledge of Famous Software desirable.

  • Strong listening skills.
  • Knowledge and experience of food products a plus.
  • Must be able to work a flexible schedule: working 8-10 hour days with some Saturdays.
