Fresh-Cut Processing Plant Production Manager

Job Description: 

San Miguel Produce is a vertically integrated grower, fresh-cut processor and shipper specializing in dark leafy greens with brands: San Miguel Produce, Cut ‘N Clean Greens, and Jade Asian Greens. We are looking for a Fresh-Cut Processing Plant Production Manager in Savannah, Georgia. This individual will coordinate and follow up on activities by performing the following duties personally or through subordinate supervisors.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Directs, supervises and oversees employees in the facility. Departments include cooler operations, shipping operations, packing operations and quality control.
  • Provides leadership, coaching, mentoring and training while supervising and indirectly coordinating activities of employees.
  • Direct, manages and controls production process through product preparation area, washing, processing, packaging and distribution’ plus plant sanitation process.
  • Oversees the packing schedule and communicates with the sales department on quantitative product availability each day.
  • Coordinates plant activities through detailed planning with supervisors and managers to ensure plant objectives are accomplished in a timely and cost effective manner.
  • Coordinates with the field to ensure appropriate quantities of product are available to meet production requirements.
  • Participates, updates, coordinates, and implements policies and procedures for elements of the safety program.
  • Ensures all food safety and safety procedures and policies are being followed.
  • Determines materials, equipment, labor requirements and ensures availability to meet production targets.
  • Participate with senior management and maintenance to develop projects which relate to the improvement of production lines.
  • Conducts on-the-job training for new positions and conducts worker safety trainings when needed.
  • Works closely with the QA-Food Safety Supervisor to ensure the management and accuracy of QA/QC documents and protocols.
  • Implements and updates quality control standards.
  • Develops, implements and updates SOPs.
  • Develops, tracks, communicates and reports the operational KPI’s. Prepares and reports data analysis to Director of Plant Operations so as to contribute in maintaining and developing cost standards.
  • Constantly works to identify and implement process improvements that benefit the overall cost of goods and increase the performance of the production line.
  • Perform duties in a safe manner following the Company’s Health and Safety policies and procedures.

Education & Experience:

B.A. or B.S. Degree from a four-year college or university OR over 5 years up to and including 7 of related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience in the fresh food processing industry and within a Grower/Processor/Shipper environment.

Language Skills:

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.  Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.  Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public. Fluent in English and Spanish highly desirable.

Mathematical Skills:

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.  Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.

Reasoning Ability:

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

Computer Skills:                      

To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of: MS Office Suite: Outlook Communication Management software, Word (Word Processing) software, Excel Spreadsheet software, PowerPoint Presentation Software; Accounting software; ADP Payroll system; Famous Software; Internet Usage; and PC and/or MAC and Windows Usage experience.

Certifications, Licenses and Registrations:
  • Valid State Driver’s License
  • HACCP certification strongly desired and Concrete knowledge of LGMA, GMP and SSOP.
  • Must be able to set and attain goals, initiate action to resolve problems and improve products and processes.
  • Good organizational and project management skills.
  • Good oral and written communication skills with the ability to effectively interface with a variety of people at various technical and management levels.
  • Experience with strategic planning and being a member of a high level executive team.

Other Skills & Abilities:

  • Knowledge of the State Labor Code; Familiarity with OSHA requirements
