The Melons Category Manager will support our East region, with responsibility for Cantaloupes and other Melons. This role encompasses FOB sales duties, leveraging product knowledge and sales techniques to maximize sales revenue to retailers, wholesalers and foodservice accounts. You’ll help shape the overall category direction, supply plan, and tactical sales efforts as the crop is harvested from multiple regions, positioning yourself as an expert and the go-to person on both strategic and tactical issues.
Responsibilities:
- Identify new sales opportunities, and aggressively build, establish and maintain a customer base.
- Procure new sales in-person and by phone.
- Maintain sales, gross profit and unit sales levels to meet or exceed budget.
- Maintain customer contact (in-person and by phone) to maximize per-planned volume and review targets and generates sales. Continuously push sales on availability in inventory (including slow moving or number 2’s).
- Participate with East Coast Category Manager on product promotion timing and pricing activities.
- Maintain customer relationships by visiting with store produce managers and employees; answering their questions, responding to special requests, and describing product features
- Assist in collection efforts in compliance with company procedures
- Generate request for credit in compliance with company procedures
- Assist in making presentations and providing customer and intra-company training.
- Assist in planning future acreage based off of demand schedule and analytics.
- Work on-site at farm during harvests as needed
- Manage Supply and Demand based with the help of our proprietary technology.
- Work side-by-side with Robinson Fresh Grower Management and Development Team to understand estimated production and quality.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree preferred
- 3-5 years’ experience within Melons category, including managing and selling a crop
- Demonstrated ability to develop and nurture customer relationships
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, able to navigate complex situations and deal with conflict
- Proven ability to persuade and influence others by establishing credibility and demonstrating expertise
- Able to think both tactically and strategically to develop long-term global programs
- Travel up to 50%, including shorter 1-2 day trips (East Coast)
