Manager of Technical Food Safety

Job Description: 

We specialize in providing fresh produce procurement and distribution services to food service clients across North America, the Caribbean and beyond. We manage an alliance of 48 independently-owned specialty distributors of fresh products, with combined produce sales of over $3 billion annually.

We are currently looking for a Manager of Technical Food Safety to join our team.

As the Manager of Technical Food Safety, you are responsible for utilizing your leadership and management skills to oversee operations in a produce management company, with the objective of ensuring and maintaining food safety standards and regulatory compliance.

Requirements: 
  • Bachelor Degree in Food Science, Regulatory Affairs, Agriculture, Environmental Science, or similar degree.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in supervision in the produce industry.
  • GFSI scheme certified inspector.
  • Must be willing to Travel.
  • Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
  • Expert knowledge of FSMA laws and GFSI scheme audit training.
  • Strong interpersonal and verbal communication skills.
  • Solid business acumen and problem-thinking skills.
Responsibilities & Duties: 
  • Ensure that produce is safe and manage regulatory compliance requirements (FSMA, OSHA, USDA, EPA, GAP, GHP, and GFSI).
  • Involved in performing, reviewing, and overseeing collection of grower and facility food safety audits.
  • Follow guidelines and demand adherence to Produce Alliance food safety standards on a daily basis.
  • Help monitor and execute the produce recall program.
  • Focus on ensuring a safe produce supply chain, while contributing to overall customer satisfaction and company objectives.
  • Ensure the product meets specifications and food safety standards.
  • Help develop and communicate food safety policies and procedures including; audits, recall procedures, hold procedures and lot traceability.
  • Develop and modify operating procedures for processes, data collection, and SOP guidelines.
  • Impact quality results through process measurements and process control.
  • Utilize external resources to develop  training, peer groups, and stay current on the changing legislative landscape.
  • Consistency in working with an internal and external team with good communications.
  • Ability to consult on GFSI scheme and regulatory compliance.
