Job Description: 

Potandon Produce is a privately held, independent company that has grown to become a national leader in fresh potato and onion sales.

We are owned by a group of managers, grower/shippers, and other individuals, and are the owners of exclusive licensing rights to market fresh potatoes and onions utilizing the Green Giant® Fresh brand in North America.

We are currently looking for a VMR Buyer to join our team. This position is located in the SUPERVALU office in Mechanicsville, Virginia.  

As a VMR Buyer you will be responsible for managing the potato and onion categories assigned to you. You will be tasked with forecasting and placing orders for multiple warehouse locations, completing all necessary data entry, and growing sales. You will also be required to create strong working relationships with the Customer Account Managers and staff at SUPERVALU.

Responsibilities & Duties: 
  • Perform inventory management on assigned customer accounts.
  • Meet service levels and established shrink/discounting guidelines.
  • Effectively communicate sales opportunities and develop long-term ad plans as necessary.
  • Cross train on all accounts to insure continuity within the department.
  • Monitor all active markets and stay current on competition.
  • Take an ownership/leadership role with the national SUPERVALU account.
  • Maintain a very high professional image when on site or in contact with SUPERVALU employees, customers, or agents of either.
  • Actively participate in the execution of the Potandon Sales plan in all aspects.
  • Participate in the introduction and development of new items as they become available.
  • Resolve all claims or problem orders in an efficient and expedited manner at the receivers dock.
  • Oversee the collection of accounts receivable to remain within acceptable time frames.
  • Control expenses and operate within budget.
  • Carry out any special assignments upon request.
  • Do store visits, warehouse checks, and other ad-hoc activities to benefit the development of sales and maintaining quality levels.
Qualifications: 
  • Experienced produce or perishable buyer.
  • Strong understanding of all aspects of the retail produce department sales model.
  • Complete understanding of wholesale produce purchasing, warehouse processes and procedures, retail pricing, and shrink control.
  • Knowledge of fresh potato and onion markets preferred.
  • Above average computer skills, focusing on buying systems and current software packages.
  • Good negotiation skills with the ability to resolve problems between customers, co-packers, and employees.
  • Strong organizational and clear consistent communication skills, including written and verbal.
  • Team player - results oriented person with a high level of engagement.
  • Above average crisis management skills.
  • Self-supervised position – must be highly responsible and adhere to a strict work schedule, phone & e-mail follow up, and documentation of activities.
