Pete Pappas & Sons Inc., is a fourth generation owned and operated repacker and wholesaler of fresh fruits and vegetables. We specialize in tomatoes and strawberries.

Pete Pappas & Sons Inc. has a long history in the Washington, D.C. area. The Pappas' produce business dates back to 1901 when Pete K. Pappas immigrated to America from Sparta, Greece. He started selling produce from a push cart in the early 1900s, and then had a retail stand in the Center Market in 1917, and in 1932 moved to the Union Market, now known as the Florida Avenue Market.

The company has expanded and is now located in Jessup Maryland. Today Pete Pappas & Sons Inc. is in the capable hands of Pete and his sons, the 4th generation of the Pappas family, Gus and Aris Pappas.

We are currently searching for a Shipping Supervisor to join our family in Jessup, Maryland.

As the Shipping Supervisor you will be responsible for monitoring all shipping activities. You will ensure that deliveries are made on time and address any problems that may arise. You are also responsible for communicating with different departments on inventory level, shipping status and product quality. Lastly, you must ensure that everyone within the shipping division is following safety and cleanliness standards.

Requirements: 
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • 1 plus year of experience in a shipping environment.
  • Must have geographical knowledge of the Maryland DC area.
  • Manual dexterity required for operating machinery.
  • Ability to work with others across other departments.
  • Good leadership skills
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds required.
Responsibilities & Duties: 
  • Follow all company policy and procedures. Includes compliance to food safety and HACCP program requirements.
  • Frequently monitor shipping list in Famous throughout the day.
  • Supervise all company drivers in accordance with plant policies and procedures.
  • Responsible for shift schedule to include: driver start times, delivery/pick up assignments, employee training, employee breaks, and odd-shift assignments.
  • Route the trucks and monitor truck routes and drivers during shift.
  • Coordinate with the Warehouse Manager for appropriate staffing levels.
  • Responsible for checking all outgoing orders which include; quality, quantity, and tag numbers on outgoing loads.
  • Responsible for receiving and reviewing all paperwork when drivers return from their routes and email the office staff Return/Rejection/Short reports in a timely manner.
  • Ensure that returns and rejections are properly put away.
  • Email a night order every morning including OTR (over the road) orders.
  • Make sure drivers follow delivery procedures.
  • Review all night orders with shift supervisor.
  • Responsible for pallet exchange program.
  • Ensure employees have a phone and steel toe boots.
  • Attend morning Operations meeting, which includes presenting previous days metrics.
  • Attend the afternoon walkthrough/handoff meeting and present status and OTR plan.
  • Other duties as assigned.
