The technician is responsible for PC support to a variety of geographically diverse locations throughout the Company’s enterprise and reports to the Sr. Systems Administrator in Castroville, CA. Primary duties include first level support to PC/handheld computing device users, installation, configuration, and troubleshooting of all printing devices and troubleshooting wide area network connections and associated telecommunications assemblies. Initially, this role is a temporary-to-permanent opportunity of up to 180 days. If successfully hired within Ocean Mist Farms, the incumbent will work full-time, year-round, Monday – Saturday, including occasional Sundays & holidays; extensive travel is required approx. 4 months annually to our various facilities and surrounding areas including frequent domestic/international travel  in California (including Huron, Oxnard, Coachella, Westmorland), Arizona (Yuma), and Mexico (Baja California, Mexicali).

  • Bilingual Spanish and English speaker highly desired;
  • Minimum of Associate of Science in computer related field of study or similar degree is required; continuing education in IT, safety and other related fields will be required;
  • Minimum of 2 years of direct work experience supporting computer networks, PCs and peripherals; Windows Remote Desktop or Citrix Systems is required; broad area of technology proficiency is preferred; minimum of 2 years experience with Storage Area Network infrastructure and computer virtualization strongly preferred. Experience with common Windows desktop and handheld Operating System is required;
  • Candidate should possess an A+ or Networking+ professional certification or be a Microsoft Certified Professional;
  • Working knowledge of Ethernet networking technologies is required; extensive network and stand-alone printer support is required; ability to provide first level troubleshooting of network connectivity, software, and hardware issues at the Desktop level is required;
  • Must have familiarity with Wireless Local Area Network technologies and typical warehouse computer systems. Candidate required to make initial support assessments on issues with routers, wireless bridges and switches from a variety of manufacturers is highly desired;
  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office suite of applications (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Project, and Visio), web-based applications and database capabilities is highly desired;
  • Some experience managing vendors and/or project management skills preferred. This position requires excellent team participation skills and a self-motivated individual.
  • Valid class “C” California Driver’s license is required and must be insurable; possess or ability to obtain a valid passport for international unrestricted travel to Mexico;
  • Telephone, computer keyboard, fax, photocopy machine and other clerical and office equipment;
  • Majority of time spent working in an office environment often sitting, standing, walking, kneeling, turning, reaching, climbing stairs, operating computers and other physical activities related to the office environment for long periods of time; ability to travel to office, cooler and various domestic and international locations to meet with employees, clients and vendors; ability to stoop, reach, and walk and other physical activities associated with an office environment; ability to lift 40 pounds without undue physical exertion;
  • Requires sufficient sight and hearing to perform all duties; strong verbal and written communication skills; ability to communicate verbally and comprehend verbal instructions; ability to carry out defined procedures and duties with specific instructions; ability to work both independently and manage a project from its initiation to completion with minimal supervision; ability to learn new duties with minimal repetition; and work in a cross-cultural environment; ability to maintain effective working relationships with employees, supervisors, customers and peers.

Responsibilities & Duties: 

Help Desk

  • Populating and maintaining the helpdesk trouble ticket system, computer inventory, and software licensing;
  • Assist with setting up processes to improve the IT Department’s efficiency such as asset management, license management, software licensing, etc.;
  • Assist with the installing, troubleshooting, configuring and maintaining desktop PCs, Thin Clients, tablets, cell phones, printers, and software to provide a reliable and secure computing environment;
  • Assist and maintain trouble ticket queue, purchase orders (POs), invoices,  return materials authorization (RMA), and equipment orders;
  • Responsible for the procurement and asset management of equipment and software that supports the Company’s computing environment.

Field Harvest

  • Primarily responsible for the maintenance and support of WAN connected handheld computing devices in the field;
  • All thermal printing devices; and
  • All ancillary systems setup for a wide variety of harvest locations. 

Customer Support

  • Initiate and maintain contact with individuals located within the Company’s & contract distribution centers,  office complexes and field harvest operations;
  • Provide quality support for network connectivity, general PC, Smartphone/tablet and printer support.

Technical Support

  • Provide a broad area of first level technical support in PCs and Ethernet networking technologies;
  • Provide an extensive level of support to networked and stand-alone printers;
  • First level troubleshooting of network connectivity, software, and hardware issues at the desktop level;
  • Provide Windows Remote Desktop, Citrix Systems; work with Storage Area Network infrastructure and computer virtualization. Work with common Windows desktop and handheld Operating Systems;
  • Provide initial support assessments on issues with routers, wireless bridges and switches from a variety of manufacturers;
  • Provide basic level of knowledge of TCP/IP, IP networking, and the OSI seven layer model;
  • Address first level network security issues and firewall configuration.

Analysis

  • Support the analysis and contribute with creative and original approaches to network technology challenges and solutions. Including, but not limited to, leveraging the internet, private networks, semi-private networks and VPNs for connectivity in regions lacking infrastructure;
  • Contribute to or participate in entry level ad hoc analysis, reports and research generation as required by the position.
