Senior Financial Analyst

Job Description: 

We are currently seeking a Senior Financial Analyst in Salinas, California. This individual will be responsible for a full support to controller in finance and accounting functions and processes overseeing the company’s vertically integrated growing & commodity Salad and Vegetable business segments, execution of company accounting policies & procedures, conforming to GAAP. Provide support  and assist in the coordination of company financial planning, reporting and budget management functions.

Responsibilities & Duties: 
  • Direct the day-to-day execution of accounting functions and processes;
  • Managing day-to-day functions of grower accounting ;
  • Supports preparing  accurate and timely financial statements and analysis to controller;
  • Closely coordinate, communicate and partner with the Salad and Vegetable segment business managers, particularly Sales, Business Management (Marketing), Customer Service, Operations, LoSgistics and Raw Product;
  • Analyze, improve, and monitor grower accounting policies and procedures ;
  • Supports controller in coordinating the annual audit for the Vegetable segment to produce a timely and efficient audit by the company’s independent auditors
  • Assist in coordination of the company financial planning and budget management functions.
  • Recommend benchmarks for measuring the financial and operating performance of divisions and departments;
  • Assist in monitoring and analysis of monthly operating results against budget and forecast;
  • Assist in the preparation of financial outlooks, financial forecasts and cash planning ;
  • Assist controller to establish and implement short- and long-range departmental goals & objectives;
  • Assist in the overall financial management of all corporate entities and subsidiaries;
  • Assist in directing financial audits and provide recommendations for procedural improvements;
  • Assist in supervising employees in the Accounting Department as it pertains to coordinating and overseeing the grower accounting processes.

  • Excellent verbal & written communications skills required.
  • Bilingual in Spanish is highly desired.

Education and/or Experience:      

  • Must be highly skilled in the use and application of the company’s computer system and approved accounting policies and procedures.
  • B.S. degree in Accounting
  • CPA certification desired
  • Minimum four (4) years of practical experience in accounting, and minimum two (2) years practical experience as a Business or Financial Analyst managing staff in a vertically integrated grower / shipper environment.
  • Experience and working knowledge of accounting principles, regulations, practices, and currency translation for US and Mexico based operations highly desirable.
  • Must be willing to identify opportunities to improve internal processes, develop & make recommendations and implement / execute decisions

  • Writes reports, business correspondence, and potentially procedure manuals. 
  • Effectively presents information and responds to questions from and in the presence of top management and other departments.

Mathematical Skills:

  • Mathematical skills with the ability to work mathematical concepts into everyday business situations. 
  • Applies concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
  • Calculates figures and amounts such as revenue, expenses, discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, and percentages.

Reasoning Ability:

  • Defines problems, collects data, establishes facts, and draws valid conclusions. 
  • Interprets a variety of information and makes calculated decisions.
  • Solves practical problems and deals with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
  • Interprets a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.  Organizes schedule and simultaneous projects.
