Job Description:
Merchants Foodservice, a division of The Merchants Company, is one of the nation's fastest growing broadline food service distributors is currently seeking a Produce Buyer in Jackson, Mississippi.
Re-location expenses are negotiable for the right candidate

Responsibilities & Duties:
- Procure assigned vendor lines on a daily basis.
- Be responsible for approving all invoices of assigned vendors for payment and see that the correct cost is in the computer for all locations.
- Assist in obtaining bid prices and place all orders for bid merchandise on vendors that are assigned.
- Maintain knowledge of food prices, quality and supply through daily contact with brokers and sales people.
- Participate in sales meetings when required.
- Work with sales / customer as requested to increase produce sales.
- Attend buying shows when required.
- Participate in planning and execution of marketing and merchandising programs (Flyers, DSR Promotions, Sales Contest, etc.)
- Participate in planning and execution of Merchants Foodservice Food Shows.
- Expedite orders to insure timely delivery of merchandise.
- Coordinate disposal of all unsellable merchandise.
- Maintain accurate inventory counts on all Produce related items.
- Coordinate and help with the sanitation of the Produce Coolers.
- Must help in coordinating receiving and unloading procedures in Produce Department.
- Insure that product is rotated properly in the coolers by inspecting on a required frequency.
- Assist in the training of the produce receiver to insure that we are inspecting and cutting product for receipt and making sure that we refuse product when necessary if quality is not up to our standards.
- Any other duties as assigned or requested by Division President.
Education:
- High School education or High School equivalent.
Qualifications:
- Must have basic knowledge of products, pricing structure, sources of supply and sources of transportation.
- Must have the ability to react on a timely basis in procuring shorted items and have the ability to interpret computer printouts, operate a computer
- Awareness of the financial aspects of inventory control.
Physical Attributes Needed:
- Must be physically able to hear, answer and speak clearly on the telephone.
- Must be physically able to keep close watch on inventory of produce and when necessary supervise loading and shipping of produce inventory.
