Job Description:

We are currently looking for a Sustainable Agriculture Program Coordinator in Salinas, CA.

As the Sustainable Agriculture Program Coordinator you will be responsible for providing scientific data analysis and sustainable agriculture research support for the farming operations of Measure to Improve clientele.  You will consolidate and summarize current on-farm resource use for our clients and streamline data tracking procedures. You will also assist with the communications/reports for conferences, environmental regulation, buyer demands and voluntary efforts as needed by each client.

The ideal candidate will have excellent skills in MS Excel and PowerPoint as well as communication and writing skills. They will have an education and background in agriculture with an understanding of soils, irrigation, pest management and California crop systems.

Requirements: 
  • Bachelor’s Degree Required- Preferably Crop or Environmental Sciences
  • Must be computer proficient in Microsoft Word, Outlook, Power point and Excel
  • Have knowledge or an understanding of the Ag Industry, specifically:
    • Soils/Biogeochemistry
    • Fertilizers and soil amendments
    • Irrigation – water conservation and protection
    • Integrated Pest Management
    • California vegetable cropping systems
  • Excellent communication skills both written and verbal
  • Self- starter who can work both independently and collaboratively with co-workers
  • Passion for produce industry

Responsibilities & Duties: 
  • Assist Principals in establishing goals, performance metrics and long range strategic plans for MTI clients
  • Calculate baselines for water, fertilizer and energy use for individual client operations along with percent soil organic matter to provide clients with the tools for measuring improvement and sustainability reporting.
  • Become familiar with sustainable farming practices by reading recent scientific journals, trade publications, conducting online research, and attending conferences. 
  • Organize and manage data for customers as needed which can include but is not limited to: nutrient applications; irrigation applications and well meter readings; PG&E and fuel usage; water and soil lab analysis results; and various waste streams generated.
  • Provide solutions for clients to establish and/or streamline data tracking procedures by assessing database solutions, identifying duplicative efforts or errors, adjust existing or create new data collection sheets and processes.
  • Assist Principal in supporting client regulatory requirements as needed e.g. Regional Water Quality Control Board, Air Resources Board and Food Safety.
  • Assist Principal  in developing and executing the communications strategies in support of customers corporate identity (e.g. Summary, Highlights, Website)
  • Be familiar with the Stewardship Index for Specialty Crops (SISC) as well as other voluntary sustainable agriculture programs.
  • Assist Principal with agriculture-related reporting needs associated with the client’s buyers such as Sysco, Wal-Mart, McDonalds, Wholefoods and others.
