Job Description: 

Mann Packing, based in Salinas, CA, the “salad bowl” of the world, is a leading provider of innovative, pre-washed and ready to use fresh veggies. We are one of the largest suppliers of western vegetables, Broccolini® and sugar snap peas in North America. Join a solid company with a dedicated team of employees as the Vice President of Technical Services at our corporate headquarters in Salinas, CA. 

The VP of Technical Services will be responsible for leading a team of technical professionals whose primary goal is to support our production efforts with expertise in the areas of Research and Development, Microbiology, Quality Assurance, and Food Safety. This position will also strategically partner with departments (Operations, Distribution, Sales, Marketing, etc.) to ensure the best possible products, service, and communication throughout the organization and to our customers. The position reports to the Executive Vice President of Operations and will lead a team of 40+ employees at facilities ranging from our home base of Salinas to as far as Yuma, Arizona.

Requirements: 
  • 10-15 years of experience in technical services roles, with 5+ years in leadership roles.
  • Proven track record and related job experiences within the produce industry.
  • A bachelor’s or master’s degree in a food science-related field. A PHD is preferred. 
  • Proficient in MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint and other computer software programs as needed.
  • Must have a strong foundation of knowledge in R&D, QA, food science and food safety.
  • Must have a high level of customer service.
  • Must be a strong team leader who is committed to the organization's objectives.  
  • Must be able to get results by motivating others.  
  • Must be able to manage and organize multiple projects and departments. 
  • Must have analytical and problem-solving skills.  
  • Must be able to think strategically and develop long-term plans and relationships.  
  • Must have excellent interpersonal, communication, and presentation skills.

Responsibilities & Duties: 
  • Develops long- and short-range strategic plans for providing technical support across the organization and to customer base.
  • Leads, develops and evaluates the R&D and QA staffs. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning and directing work; appraising performance; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
  • Works closely with Sales, Marketing, Operations, Customers and Co-Packers by offering technical expertise to everyday supply chain issues.
  • Provides accurate and timely reporting and technical statements and documentation in order to remain compliant for the markets in which we operate.
  • Coordinate the review of external customer product specifications and ensure that internal manufacturing and selling are aligned.
  • Organize and lead regular cross-functional meetings to ensure customer technical requirements are being met in an accurate and timely manner.
  • Articulates and demonstrates Company Mission, Vision and Values.
  • Maintains a close working relationship with all relevant industry research and technical groups.
