Job Description: 

Mann Packing Company, a pioneer in the fresh-cut produce industry and one of North America’s leading suppliers of fresh produce to the retail, foodservice and wholesale markets is looking to hire an experienced Director of Research & Development. 

We are currently looking for a Purchasing Coordinator to join our team in Salinas, CA.

As the Purchasing Coordinator you are responsible for creating purchase orders for the acquisition of materials. You are also responsible for researching, interviewing, and negotiating with suppliers to obtain prices and specifications. You will provide routine administrative support and a variety of complicating tasks. 

An ideal candidate will be familiar with a variety of field’s concepts, practices, and procedures and relies on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals.

Requirements: 
  • B.S. or B.A. degree Preferred.
  • Familiar with a variety of field’s concepts, practices, and procedures.
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills.
  • Strong analytical skills.
  • Computer skills (MS Word and Excel).
  • Highly organized and detail oriented.
Responsibilities & Duties: 
  • Coordinate and communicate packaging material purchase order(s) for corrugated cartons (all plants including Fresh Leaf Farms and field direct), RPC’s, rubber bands & tags, salt, iceless liners, liners, glue, broccoli field bags, pallets (for all plants), Garden Valley items, and other as assigned.
  • Coordinate film, label, tray and other logistics as needed.   
  • Manage suppliers on a daily basis to ensure contract terms and service levels are met.
  • Create accurate purchase (using P.O.’s) orders to order materials and maintain optimal inventory levels at all plants. 
  • Ensure receipt of inventory reports and review weekly supplier inventories for cartons, trays, film, liners, glue, labels, field bags, and others as assigned.
  • Review open P.O.’s on a daily basis to ensure everything has been properly received.  Communicate with receiving clerk if items haven’t been received.
  • Create merchandising plans for inventory locations. 
  • Coordinate Corrective Material Reports processing to ensure items are returned and supplier credits are received. 
  • Update daily production efficiency reporting.
  • Update vegetable usage and loss reporting.
  • Update on a daily basis, the packaging deliveries schedule. 
  • Help develop corrugated carton loss tracking.  Ensure procedures are implemented and daily compliance is maintained.
  • Analyze causes for carton loss and recommend solutions for decreasing production losses. 
  • Assist Director of Supply Chain in developing RFQ’s and RFI’s for all purchasing categories. 
  • Support Director of Supply Chain in ensuring new packaging items are given to cost accounting and that cost accounting has accurate cost information for month end physical inventories.
  • Assist in preparing for annual audits, inspections, and with track and trace program.
  • Collect or work with receiving personnel to gather production samples for marketing.
  • Work with accounts payable to ensure all invoice account coding is done on a daily basis and any outstanding coding issues are resolved in a timely manner. 
  • Help update product specifications, supplier insurance forms, approved supplier list, and other as asked. 
  • Back-up Director of Supply Chain on packaging and learn to handle vegetable releases as needed. 
  • As needed, assist with analysis, pricing adjustments and others while maintaining accuracy.
