We are currently searching for a Director of Shipping and Logistics.

As the Director of Shipping and Logistics, you will oversee two locations logistics departments: one in Salinas, CA and the other in Yuma, AZ. The logistics department covers the shipping and storage of goods, vendor selection and negotiation, distribution, and inventory control.

The Director of Shipping and Logistics is responsible for managing the produce shipping and facilities staff in Salinas, (year round), and Yuma (seasonally). You will lead and direct a workforce of approximately 90 employees, while shipping over 30 million cartons a year. You are also responsible for shipping approximately 225 trucks and approximately 375+ orders per day. 

You are in charge of developing logistic plans and procedures to ensure that all internal and external customer’s needs are met. To accomplish all that is required, you must rely on your extensive experience, creativity and judgment to plan and accomplish goals.

Requirements: 
  • Bachelor’s Degree with 8 + years in a shipping management role, managing and building a professional and disciplined service organization.
  • Provide a safe and fair working environment for all employees.
  • Expertise developing and implementing metric based performance measures and reporting tools to communicate progress, justify actions and measure success.
  • Development of annual budgets.
  • Negotiate leases, service and materials contracts.
  • Ability to think strategically, analyze, problem solve and execute tactically.
  • Ethics, humility, integrity, high level intelligence, and accountability.
  • Strong quantitative and analytical skills to support cost management and process enhancement opportunities.
  • Working knowledge of the principals of financial analysis, and a proven ability to prepare and manage capital projects.
  • Experience managing Union employees.
Responsibilities & Duties: 
  • Manage the produce shipping staff and facilities business in Salinas, CA and Yuma, AZ.
  • Lead and direct a workforce of approximately 90 employees, while shipping over 30 million cartons a year. 
  • Direct and provide the vision for growth and service objectives of the logistics of the company.
  • Responsible for identifying opportunities for improvement, making financially sound recommendations for change, developing organization and personnel, and ensuring that a productive, safe and quality conscious work environment is maintained.
  • Manage and meet daily and monthly financial budgets for Salinas and Yuma (budget preparation, tracking and control).
  • Must track and meet Key Performance Metrics such as on-time shipping, reduction of loading errors, and maximizing fill rates. 
  • Conduct logistic bid packages for Yuma/Salinas route and New Jersey shipping route. Manage third party logistic company on these routes.
