Produce Buyer

Job Description: 

The Produce Buyer is responsible for leading both the short term (day to day) and long term (3-5 year) strategic sourcing strategy and execution for all categories. They are responsible for ensuring that all categories are purchased at a total lowest cost of ownership, meeting quality standards that promote our reputation as a provider of top quality products while maintaining profitability at Maglio & Company. The Buyer is responsible for achieving department goals (productivity), implementing best practices, driving value added category results, and promoting innovation and relationship to all Maglio & Company team members, including actionable recommendations and fast solutions to member requests.
 

Responsibilities & Duties: 

Procurement

  • Determine Categories to Source
  • Conduct Market Supply Analysis
  • Set Sourcing Strategy
  • Evaluate and Select Suppliers
  • Negotiate Contracts
  • Maintain Supplier Relationships
  • Drive Productivity (outside category reviews)

Customer (Relationship/Requests)

  • Resolve Supplier Issues (Service and Quality)
  • Respond to Customer Requests
  • Quote on new items

Operational

  • Forecasting or planning volume requirements
  • Issuing Purchase Orders
  • Resolving PO/Invoice issues/inquiries
  • Process Invoices 
Education: 

Four-year college degree preferred in Agriculture or Business Administration or equivalent experience.

Qualifications: 
  • 5 years (minimum) fresh produce procurement experience
  • 2 years (minimum) fresh tomato procurement experience
  • Familiarity with major product sources, industry practices, quality levels, packaging and logistics.
  • Able to communicate effectively in both oral and written forms with people at all levels, including member personnel.
  • Demonstrated ability to negotiate successfully in marketing/buying situations.
  • Proven ability to inspire confidence and interact with others at all levels.
  • Able to work in a fast paced, multi-tasking environment.
  • Able to interpret industry data and make business decisions based on the material.
  • Ability to speak publicly and make presentations to groups of various sizes.
  • Able and willing to travel by plane, car, and other means of transportation as required.
  • Proficient with Produce Pro software use in all aspects and uses
  • Intermediate level experience with Microsoft Excel/Word, Access, and Power Point.
